The player attempts to choose which area on the roulette wheel the [[Red Shell]] will spin into, with smaller areas being worth more [[coin]]s. After the player chooses an area, [[Game Guy]] spins the shell around the roulette. If the shell spins into the area the player chose, their coins are multiplied by the number listed next to their choice. However, if the shell spins into a different area from the area the player chose, the player loses all of their coins.
The player bets on a roulette wheel by choosing an area for the [[Red Shell]] to spin into for a chance to multiply their coins. The [[Koopa Troopa]] area has six slots and a x2 multiplier, the [[Bob-omb]] area has five slots and a x4 multiplier, the [[Goomba]] area has four slots and an x8 multiplier, the [[Boo]] area has three slots an a x16 multiplier, the pink [[Toad]] area has two slots and a x32 multiplier, and the red area (represented by a [[Shy Guy]] on the betting table icon) has only one slot and a x64 multiplier.

Game Guy's Roulette is a Game Guy minigame in Mario Party 3.

Overview[edit]

The player bets on a roulette wheel by choosing an area for the Red Shell to spin into for a chance to multiply their coins. The Koopa Troopa area has six slots and a x2 multiplier, the Bob-omb area has five slots and a x4 multiplier, the Goomba area has four slots and an x8 multiplier, the Boo area has three slots an a x16 multiplier, the pink Toad area has two slots and a x32 multiplier, and the red area (represented by a Shy Guy on the betting table icon) has only one slot and a x64 multiplier.

After the player has made their choice, Game Guy spins the shell. The player's coins are multiplied if the Red Shell manages to land in the selected area, but the player loses every coin if it does not.

Expected value[edit]

Let B be the number of coins bet and observe that there are 21 slots on the roulette wheel. The following table shows the EV for each area the player can choose.

Bet on Expected value
An icon from Game Guy's Roulette 2B × 2/7 = 12B/21 ≈ 0.5714B
An icon from Game Guy's Roulette 4B × 5/21 = 20B/21 ≈ 0.9524B
An icon from Game Guy's Roulette 8B × 4/21 = 32B/21 ≈ 1.5238B
An icon from Game Guy's Roulette 16B × 1/7 = 48B/21 ≈ 2.2857B
An icon from Game Guy's Roulette 32B × 2/21 = 64B/21 ≈ 3.0476B
An icon from Game Guy's Roulette 64B × 1/21 = 64B/21 ≈ 3.0476B

Although betting on Koopa Troopa is most likely to earn the player coins in a single minigame, constantly betting on Koopa Troopa makes the player most likely to lose coins in the long run. Conversely, constantly betting on Toad or Shy Guy is a long shot in any single round, but it makes the player more likely to triple their coins in the long run.

In-game text[edit]

  • Game Guy"Place your bet, then make your guess. If the shell stops in the area you chose, your coins will increase according to the odds. If the shell lands in another area, your coins will be mine."
