Twirlips are a new species of enemy appearing in the game Super Mario Galaxy 2. At first glance, they appear as white bud shaped creatures with two beady eyes and a smiley face. However, they will turn into a pink flower with a yellow center and spin around the area like a drill. In this form, they can be damaged, but only by jumping on their yellow center. They cannot be eaten by Yoshi in this form though. Mario or Luigi can only defeat these in their bud form. They appear in a few galaxies, but most notably in the Spin-Dig Galaxy. They are also fought on some Bonus Planets.

Twirlips[1] are enemies in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Their name is a combination of "twirl" and "tulip," describing their motion and appearance. At first glance, they appear as white bud-shaped creatures that resemble onions with two beady eyes. To attack, a Twirlip turns into a pink flower with a yellow center and quickly spins around the area like a top. While twirling, a Twirlip can be damaged only by stomping on its head, which makes the Twirlip drop a coin. In a Twirlip's bud form, Mario or Luigi can use any attack method to defeat it, which makes the Twirlip drop three Star Bits unless stomped. Yoshi can also eat a Twirlip, but only while it is in bud form. Twirlips appear in only three galaxies in the game: Spin-Dig Galaxy, Flipsville Galaxy, and Starshine Beach Galaxy. When shot by a Star Bit from the Star Pointer, they get stunned in place for a moment. In their opened form, Twirlips can actually defeat another Twirlip when the latter is stopped by a Co-Star Luma and the two Twirlips collide.
