Shells in Super Mario Odyssey
Shells are encountered rolling in Rolling Canyon.

Shells[1] are obstacles that appear in Super Mario Odyssey. They behave similarly to the Spike Balls seen in other games. Shells are found in the Seaside Kingdom, rolling inside a cave area near the Checkpoint Flag for Rolling Canyon on the way to the Power Moon for the objective The Seal Above the Canyon. If the player touches one of them, the shell will break and they will lose a piece of their Health Meter.

During his battle, the boss of the Seaside Kingdom, Mollusque-Lanceur, spits out shells that will float on the surface of the water for a few seconds before flashing yellow and exploding. The explosion can cause the player to lose a piece of their Health Meter. The shells will not float if Mullusque-Lanceur spits them out onto an area with shallow water, and they will instead explode when they land.
