The Chain Chomp bonus area in Super Mario Odyssey
A stone marker at the far back
First appearance Super Mario Odyssey (2017)

Stone markers[1] are objects that appear in the Cascade Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey. They are concave carvings in stone slightly larger than a Chain Chomp's head with circular markings in them. When a Chain Chomp is launched by Mario into one, either directly through capturing a Chain Chomp or indirectly by using one Chain Chomp to launch another Chain Chomp, the marker causes something to happen. One appears on the main map, which makes some coins appear. Four more appear in a Chain Chomp-based sub-area. That sub-area has the markers positioned over poison seas, encouraging the player to cause a chain reaction starting with the Chain Chomp on solid land to safely activate them. The first three are on the path forward, leading to the "Nice Shot with the Chain Chomp!" Power Moon at the end. Past that Power Moon is a secret fourth room with another stone marker. This one grants the "Very Nice Shot with the Chain Chomp!" Power Moon.
