Chain Chawfuls are Chain Chomp enemies possessed by a parasitic green Sworm with Fawful's face that appear in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. When they try to attack, Bowser can counter-attack by withdrawing into his shell or punching them. When the Sworms take damage, they will hide in the Chain-Chomp. When not hiding, Bowser can use his Vacuum ability to suck out the Sworm. This returns the Chain-Chomp to normal and ends the battle without any EXP gained. They are rather difficult to inhale and require at least 15 ds button presses. When getting ready to attack, the Sworm will move its head either up or forward. The number of times it does so indicates how many times it will attack, and in what order. If its head goes up, Bowser must duck or Mario must defend himself. If its head moves forward, Bowser must punch it to the side or Luigi has to contend with its attack. If any attacks hit them, they have a 50/50 chance of giving them the Trip status or the more dangerous dizzy status.

Chain Chawfuls are enemies that appear in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its remake, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey. They are found on Bowser Path. A Chain Chawful is a Chain Chomp controlled by a parasitic green Sworm with Fawful's face on it.

Chain Chawfuls will charge at Bowser, Mario and Luigi if they spot them in the overworld; they no longer chase the Mario Bros. in the remake, and only one Chain Chawful can be encountered if they battle them. Chain Chawfuls are fought alone or in pairs, and a Fawfulcopter may spawn overhead during a battle against them. A Blitty can be retrieved from one of the Chain Chawfuls.

Battle[edit]

Chain Chawfuls attack Bowser by charging at him repeatedly; the Sworm controlling it bobs its head multiple times before attacking, indicating the order they come in and how to counter each one. When the Sworm nods its head upward, the Chain Chomp leaps onto Bowser, who can block by withdrawing into his shell; if it bobs its head forward, the Chain Chomp lunges straight at Bowser, and he must counter with a punch. The charge attacks may trip or dizzy Bowser if they hit, and landing a counter punch on the Chain Chawful damages it and cancels the charges; in the remake, they also take damage from landing on his shell.

When facing Mario and Luigi in battle, the Chain Chawful attacks in the same manner; the Sworm nods its head before attacking Mario, and bobs its head forward if attacking Luigi. The Mario Bros. must counter the attacks with their hammers. Chain Chawfuls are fire-resistant and immune to burns, reducing damage from moves like Bowser's Fire Breath; their bodies will glow red briefly when they take fire damage.

The Sworms occasionally hide within the Chain Chomp, only resurfacing during its turn and sometimes hiding after attacking; they may also hide after taking damage. If a Sworm is hidden when the Chain Chawful takes fire damage, it will come out from hiding to avoid the heat. When not hidden, Bowser can use his Inhale ability to suck out the Sworm, which takes at least 15 X Button button presses. Inhaling the Sworm returns the Chain Chomp to normal; in the original game, no EXP is awarded for defeating a Chain Chawful this way, but in the remake, Bowser gains 25 EXP, along with restoring 30 HP and 10 BP. Freeing a Chain Chomp of its mind control ends the battle if it is the last enemy onscreen.
