Pinheads[1] are a species in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Their name comes from a word referring to a pin's flattened head. Each Pinhead appears as a bowling pin-shaped enemy with two beady eyes, a squiggly red mouth, and a yellow antenna. Pinheads are encountered in the Boulder Bowl Galaxy and Melty Monster Galaxy only. Though they are not inherently enemies, Pinheads can be defeated only by Rock Mario, and when they see him turning into a rolling boulder, they tremble desperately. When hit, they release multiple Star Bits. However, if Mario or Luigi comes close to Pinheads, they squeal and hide underground until he moves away.

Melty Monster Galaxy's secret mission involves a bowling challenge where Pinheads are located in a series of bowling alleys, and Mario must knock down at least 50 of them with his Rock form. Each Pinhead knocked down is worth 100 points.
