World 3: The Far Reaches of the Universe is a world traveled to in Super Mario Galaxy 2. World 3 is an area that contains a green nebula and many green comets and stars. Like the other worlds, there are seven galaxies in World 3, including a boss galaxy, Bowser Jr.'s Fearsome Fleet. Here, Bowser Jr. launches a second attack on Mario, this time with his giant robot Megahammer.

This level takes place in a peaceful forest with a huge tree. The tree has many branches which can be climbed to reach the top. It also introduces the Blimp Fruit. This galaxy makes prominent use of the new Cloud Mario powerup via Cloud Flower. Mario needs to use his new power to create clouds to cross the gaps in the galaxy. However, strong winds slowly push the clouds that Mario creates, meaning that the player needs good timing and reaction to overcome this obstacle. This is the first galaxy to feature the Bulb Berry. In this galaxy, new enemies are found including Octoboos, and Mattermouths. There's also a passage which has Big Boos, and floors which are eaten by the Mattermouths. This is a winter-themed galaxy, and most of the area is covered in snow or ice. Some planets are covered in lava, on which snowballs can be rolled to create pathways on the lava. Many snow statues of Bowser and Goombas can be found here, which can be destroyed with the use of the Snowballs or Fireballs from Fire Mario. This galaxy completely revolves around the use of a Star Ball which Mario must roll to the end. Grinders will cut out pieces of the stage as time passes by and Goombas may be a nuisance. Bob-ombs also appear as enemies here, which can be both beneficial or detrimental to the player, depending on the situation. This is a very unique stage in which Beat Blocks disappear and reappear to the beat of the music. Another unique feature is that the Wii Remote will beep three times before the blocks swap. Bowser Jr. is fought here, seen controlling Megahammer. Hammer Bros. can be found in the pre-boss area. Yoshi is also found in this galaxy and is essential in the defeat of Megahammer.
