World 8-3 is the third level of World 8 in Super Mario Bros. Special. It is a stage set both aboveground and underground, and features the game's only Clock.
Layout[edit]
The level begins with a Warp Pipe leading directly underground to an area with a low ceiling of Brick Blocks, alongside many Icicles falling down. Past this are two platforms of Brick Blocks with Fire-Bars on the outer corners, with Coins above a pit of Lava separating them. After this is a ? Block which allows Mario to climb past a wall of Brick Blocks, which leads to a trio of raised ground platforms with Fire-Bars in their centers, with a Hidden Block above the middle one containing a powerup. Past this is one more low ceiling of Brick Blocks with three Fire-Bars slightly below it, and a Warp Pipe out. At the very right of the Brick Block ceiling is a Coin Block. Exiting the Warp Pipe, Mario emerges to a trio of Fighter Flies, and towards the right of the screen, above a background hill, is a Hidden Block containing a Coin, which hides another Hidden Block above it containing the game's only Clock, which grants Mario an additional 100 seconds to the level timer. To the right is a massive chasm with sparsely placed Cloud Blocks and Red Koopa Paratroopas, which eventually leads to an open area with two rows of Brick Blocks with both Fighter Flies and Sidesteppers atop it; the top row of Brick Blocks hides a second powerup in the second brick block from the right. Past this is a Hard Block staircase leading up to another pair of rows of Brick Blocks, these ones with two Hammer Brothers atop them. Beyond this is one final pit with two floating Hard Blocks above it, which leads to the flagpole at the end.
