World 4-1 is the first level of World 4 in Super Mario Bros. Special. It is primarily an overworld level, and is similar to World 4-1 in the original Super Mario Bros..
The level starts with a pipe containing a Piranha Plant, before Lakitu arrives on the next screen, throwing spinies down infinitely. On the same screen with Lakitu is a ? Block containing a power-up, and above it, a Hidden Block containing a Wing. Next to it is another pipe containing a piranha plant, followed by two rows of Brick Blocks; one is a Coin Block that contains 10 Coins, one contains a Vine that leads to a bonus area, and one contains another power-up. The top row also contains a hidden block to the left of it. To the left is another pair of rows of brick blocks with a power-up hidden inside one, followed by two rows of ? Blocks with Little Goombas on the ground and bottom row. After this is a trio of green Koopa Troopas, with a Hidden Block containing a 1-Up Mushroom to their right; above that Hidden Block is the only Lucky Star in the game. To the left is a trio of Little Goombas in front of a tall pipe containing a Piranha Plant, which requires the player to reveal a Hidden Block to bypass. Beyond this is a wide, open area with two Green Koopa Paratroopas, followed by a staircase with two Green Koopa Troopas, leading to the Flagpole.
