World 8-2 is the second level of World 8 in Super Mario Bros. Special. It is an overworld stage set outside castle walls, similarly to World 8-3 in the original Super Mario Bros., with a brief underwater section at the start.
Layout
The level begins with a Warp Pipe to an underwater section, with columns of Coral and underwater ground blocking the way forward with two triplets of a Red and Green Cheep-cheep and a Bloober, spread across two screens. After this is a spiral of ground blocks and a single Green Cheep-cheep in front of the warp pipe out. Entering the Warp Pipe, Mario emerges out to a bridge with Barrels, Fighter Flies, and a Fireball atop it, with a row of Brick Blocks above it; the second Brick Block from the left is a Coin Block. Past this is a bunch of castle walls with a Hammer Brother in front of it. Past this is a small gap before a massive fortress, with two Coins floating above the edges and a Hidden Block containing a 1-Up Mushroom in the center of the fortress. After another small gap with a Hidden Block containing a powerup is a wide-open area featuring the castle walls a pair of Hammer Brothers standing in front of it, before a wall of Hard Blocks that blocks another pair of Hammer Brothers. After another stretch of land is one final staircase with three Barrels and a Fireball, leading to a pit with the flagpole at the other end.
