Effect Launches Mario in the direction he is facing

Poles (called Safety Bars in pre-release material)[1] are flexible bollard objects found in the Metro Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey. Poles can be captured by Mario. After he does so, the player can make Mario pull back with Control Stick, then release to launch from the Pole in the opposite direction. The player can also shake the controller to launch, moving farther. The motion control can be used without a directional input, in which case Mario will be launched in the opposite direction he captured the Pole from. Cappy faces that direction as an indicator. In addition to being on the horizontal plane, Poles can be found on the vertical plane as well. The default direction for these Poles is always directly upward. Poles are selectively solid. Mario can move through them, but he is pushed out if he stands still. Additionally, he cannot land on a Pole.

Some Volbonans lacking hats can be captured and are controlled similarly to Poles. Pokios can stick their beaks into walls and flick to launch themselves with similar controls to a Pole.
