The Battery, originally known as the D-Cell Battery, is a Thing in Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Color Splash.

History[edit]

Paper Mario: Sticker Star[edit]

The D-Cell Battery as a sticker

In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, the D-Cell Battery is hidden in Chomp Ruins. Mario must locate the ledge with the Big Shiny Baahammer and hammer around the north wall to reveal the battery, allowing him to collect it. It remains in Mario's Album until it is turned into a sticker at a Sling-a-Thing station. Once it has been used as a sticker, it returns to its original position. It can also be purchased from the Shady Toad for 170 coins.

The D-Cell Battery is a medium-sized sticker, taking up 1.5×1.5 squares in Mario's album. When it is used in battle, as with the Watch Battery and Car Battery, church bells ring as a dark and stormy background appears. The D-Cell Battery is revealed in the background, shaking frantically before sending out powerful lightning aimed at the enemies. This causes each of them to take damage and possibly be defeated. The damage is increased if the player presses A Button as the lightning strikes each enemy.

The D-Cell Battery may also be placed into the Sticker Museum as #27, alongside the other electric-based Things. Its basic description claims it is related to other types of batteries, while its museum description claims it is possibly a tremendous source of power. However, feeble and cautious efforts toward testing this proved futile.

In Paper Mario: Color Splash, the Battery is found among the barrels inside the ship at Violet Passage. Once the Battery has been picked up, it is wrung out, refills Mario's paint, and become a colorless card. Once it has been used as a card, it returns to its original position. It can also be purchased from the Wringer for 300 coins and sold as an unpainted card for 1 coin. A replica version of the Battery can be collected from the Battle Spin.

When it is used in battle, the scenery changes to rocky terrain with a cloudy sky and a Roman temple in the distance. The Battery appears from the clouds as a singer performs. It quickly moves closer to the battle and shakes rapidly. It causes lightning to strike each enemy with the singer laughing as each enemy is struck if more than 1 enemy is in the battle. The damage is increased if the player presses A Button as the lightning strikes each enemy.

The Battery is needed to power the Green Energy Plant. Mario must enter the Warp Pipe next to the building and use Cutout to make space for the card. The sky then darkens as more clouds and the Battery come into view. The Battery begins to shake, but stops. Huey comes out to make a comment and gets struck by the lightning which travels down the wire connected to the building and restores power.

The Battery can also be placed into the Prisma Museum, where it can be tested.

Trivia[edit]

  • In Paper Mario: Color Splash, the lyrics that play during the Battery's animation are in German. According to the in-game manual, they mean "Listen up, you fools! Listen to the Battery!" when translated. However, the actual lyrics appear to be "Höret, ihr Narren, das aufgelad'ne Wort!", which translates to "Hear, you fools, the charged-up word!"[1]
