Locked Doors[1] are obstacles that block the player's progress through Worlds in Super Mario Bros. 3. Locked Doors are found in every world in the game, and are unlocked after the player beats their respective Fortress by defeating Boom Boom and collecting the Magic ball, with multiple of them requiring beating multiple Fortresses. Like Fortresses, Locked Doors remain unlocked if the player gets a Game Over, allowing them to progress through the world faster.

In Dark Land, Locked Doors are also unlocked by beating Boom Boom in World 8-Ship, World 8-Jet and World 8-Tank levels. Unlike other Locked Doors, the ones unlocked by beating World 8-Ship and World 8-Tank directly block the player's progress forward.
