Bridges[1][2] are map features of Super Mario Bros. 3. Unlike drawbridges, these bridges are fixed and resemble moon bridges. Most act simply as river-crossing paths going from east-to-west, though certain others in Giant Land, Sky Land, and Ice Land only appear when a magic ball from a fortress is obtained. This makes them equivalent to the Locked Doors seen throughout the map, though unlike Locked Doors there is no indication of where the route will appear other than occasionally a path broken by a river.

Exit the pipe and run right, straight into Boom Boom's room, then hop onto the middle block as this allows you greater flexibility and height when targeting the Koopa for a head bounce. Alternatively, fireballs work well against this fiend! As soon as you collect the "?" ball, a bridge appears, leading to the castle! […] TIP Although you won't receive a perfect ending, you can skip either World 4-5 or 4-6 (after completing one of them and the Fortress), as a bridge opens to the castle without the need to investigate one of these worlds." – Hodgson, David S J. Bop this Koopa three times, then take the "?" ball; when you return to the land, a bridge appears heading to the start (you don't need the pipe to reach this area's western part)." – Hodgson, David S J.
