Short Version Theme Song

This article lists lyrics for the "short version" of the theme song, but where is this version used? I was curious, so I went through every episode one-by-one but did not encounter it. I'm probably going to double-check later, but if it's only used once that seems remarkable enough to be noted somewhere, perhaps in a trivia section if not in the main body. What to do with "Ashita ni Nattara" and "Banana Tengoku"

List them both here 4-6-0
Unlike other translations of the show, he Japanese version of includes a different theme for the opening and the ending (with both being named "Ashita ni Nattara" and "Banana Tengoku" respectively). Neither of these themes are listed here, however, they both appear in a short CD titled "Donkey Kong - Ashita ni Nattara...", having a vocal and a "karaoke" version, as well as in Donkey Konga 3. With these two songs making a relative amount of appearances outside the show, is it worth giving them separate articles? It's worth noting that the album and Donkey Konga 3 versions are "extended" versions.

Create articles for both of the songs

  1. Camwoodstock (talk) Hear us out here. We would be fine with this, if we also split the main theme in English from this article as well. Honestly, we're shocked the main theme for this cartoon is merged like this when Mario Brothers Rap and Do the Mario has been split since goodness-knows how long. Now, the form this article can take could vary; it could be unique articles for all 3, it could be a united article for just the two opening songs and then a separate article for Banana Tengoku, but the point stands we feel there is merit to giving these songs (and the English opening, of course) their own articles split from this one.
  2. Hewer (talk) Per Camwoodstock.
  3. Starluxe (talk) Per Camwoodstock!
  4. FanOfYoshi (talk) Per Camdwoodstocks and all.

List them both here

  1. PrincessPeachFan (talk): None of the other songs get articles, so...
  2. Hewer (talk) Per PrincessPeachFan.
  3. Jdtendo (talk) Per all.
  4. Killer Moth (talk) Per all.
  5. Camwoodstock (talk) Secondary option, and to be honest, we don't even know if enacting this option in particular really needs proposal. It's a song associated with the Donkey Kong Country cartoon! It feels like such a no-brainer inclusion here!
  6. Power Flotzo (talk) Per all.

@Camwoodstock: Good point, but if we did give the English theme song a page, what would we call it? Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 03:28, November 13, 2024 (EST)

The Konga games, as well as the cartoon as a whole, are kind of a blind spot for us, so apologies if the English theme song is in there and is already named. If nothing else, though, the conjectural "Donkey Kong Country theme (television series)" should suffice, and also disambiguate it from the song actually called "Donkey Kong Country Theme" in Konga 1. Split theme songs from this page

Split theme songs 5-1-2
Last month, it was voted that we include the Japanese theme songs on this article because all other songs from the show are listed here, including the English theme song. However, it makes sense to give theme songs their own article, like we do for Mario Brothers Rap or Do the Mario, as mentioned by Camwoodstock.

That's why I propose to split all three theme songs from this page and give each of them its own article:

  • Donkey Kong Country (television series) theme song (the title is open to discussion)
  • Ashita ni Nattara... (the Japanese opening theme)
  • Banana Tengoku (the Japanese ending theme)

The voting options are the following:

  • Support: split theme songs: Split the three songs listed above, but don't split the songs that appear in just one episode
  • Support: split all songs: Split every song listed on the page, even the songs that appear in just one episode
  • Oppose: leave the theme songs here: Don't split any song from this page

Support: split theme songs

  1. Jdtendo (talk) Per proposal.
  2. Starluxe (talk) Sure
  3. Axii (talk) Per proposal
  4. Dainn (talk) Per proposal. I actually didn't know we had pages on Do the Mario and the Mario Brothers Rap. These have the same purpose, and in particular I don't see why Do the Mario can have a page but not these.
  5. FanOfYoshi (talk) Why did we not actually get to that beforehand?

Support: split all songs

  1. FanOfYoshi (talk) My preferred option.

Oppose: leave the theme songs here

  1. PrincessPeachFan (talk) Again, we don't split the rest of the songs. Why should these be any different?
  2. Rykitu (talk) Per PrincessPeachFan.

Comments ("split theme songs" proposal)

If we don't split the rest of the songs, then why should these three be any different? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 07:42, December 22, 2024 (EST)

The other songs are specific to an episode whereas the theme songs are found in the whole series. We do a similar thing with the List of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! songs from which the theme songs are split. But I can add a "Split all songs" option if it makes more sense. Jdtendo(T|C) 07:58, December 22, 2024 (EST)

What would be the name for the English theme song then? I was thinking of a title like Donkey Kong Country (theme song) or something similar. Kaptain Skurvy Kaptain Skurvy 12:31, December 28, 2024 (EST)

"Donkey Kong Country (theme song)" would imply that the theme song's actual title is "Donkey Kong Country", which would be misleading because there is no known official title. "Donkey Kong Country theme song" (using "theme song" as part of the name rather than as a parenthesized identifier) could work as a conjectural title or, if we want to be more specific, "Donkey Kong Country (television series) theme song". Possible official name of "Pirate's Scorn"

I was browsing the Internet Archive and I found this official French video of the show that refers to Pirate's Scorn as "La chanson du pirate," in which it translates to "The pirate song." What do we think about this? Should we change the name? Kaptain Skurvy Kaptain Skurvy 16:26, February 23, 2025 (EST)

The "Curse of the Crystal Coconut" CD calls it "Pirate's Scorn". I'd say that's pretty clear evidence as to the official name. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 11:34, February 24, 2025 (EST)
Are you referring the album by Alestorm? Because that isn't official. Kaptain Skurvy Kaptain Skurvy 12:34, February 24, 2025 (EST)

Richard Yearwood singing

? Block from Super Mario World This talk page or section has a conflict or question that needs to be answered. Please try to help and resolve the issue by leaving a comment.

I'd like to discuss about what songs Richard Yearwood sings instead of Sterling Jarvis.

So, currently, the only song we've stated to be sung by Yearwood instead of Jarvis is "Mixing Your Cares Away." Our proof he only sang that one? One interview in which he said this;

As DK, you had a great singing voice. Have you ever considered a musical career?

I used to sing backup for a jazz artist and I have had some luck in the music business. The funny thing is I only sang on the first episode.

Considering that "proof" because of that claim makes no sense to me. "Cranky's Tickle Tonic" was the ninth episode of the series. Now yes, it might be possible that the episode was just the first episode recorded, but I would take that with a grain of salt. We can't consider "Cranky's Tickle Tonic" the first recorded episode over something that may be a simple misinterpretation. And by the way, DK doesn't sing in "Bad Hair Day." I still believe Yearwood sings "Mixing Your Cares Away," but I think there's 5-6 others that he sings. I'll explains them all here.

"Holograms," What Do You Love the Most?," and "Head Games" all include DK speaking in the songs, but I wouldn't necessarily consider it "singing." He's just kind of stating something relevant to what's happening around him. That's a possible reason why Yearwood didn't mention any of those three in the interview. He either didn't consider it singing, or just completely forgot, which I find both reasonable.

"Have We Got a Deal?" is another song that sounds like Yearwood sings it. This is the first instance of DK singing, actually, which is possibly what he meant by "I only sang on the first episode," possibly meaning the first episode DK sang in, but yet again, I'd take that with a grain of salt. Not too sure why Yearwood wouldn't mention this song though.

I've heard that Yearwood sung "Our Love is Stronger Than a Golden Banana" a lot, mainly on YouTube. I don't know where this claim has come from, though. I suppose I kind of hear it, especially round the "our love like ours can't grow on trees" line, but parts like the "I see bananas when I look in your eyes" and the infamous coconut cream pie line sound reminiscent of Jarvis. Not too sure about this one, but I'd definitely say the others are Yearwood.

So, overall, I consider Yearwood's claim in the interview to be just a mistake. The interview was 16 years after Donkey Kong Country first aired in Canada, so it would be forgivable if he had just forgotten. What do we think about this? Kaptain Skurvy Kaptain Skurvy 10:21, February 27, 2025 (EST)

Only Eddie Have We Got a Deal? really counts as he's rapping in that. The others are just speaking. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 07:35, March 1, 2025 (EST)
What about "Riches Galore"? That one kinda went over my head, to be honest. DK actually sings along with Diddy and Funky at the end, and it sounds like Yearwood to me. Kaptain Skurvy Kaptain Skurvy 04:49, March 2, 2025 (EST)
