Bristles are enemies in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III. These orange hedgehogs have spiky quills that injure Dixie and Kiddy Kong on contact. Bristles are encountered in waterfall levels and jungle levels mainly. A Bristles can be defeated from being rolled into from the front, because their quills harm the Kongs, much like Spinies in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Unlike Spinies, Bristles are unaffected by a team up throw, also damaging the Kong in the process. Alternatively, a Bristles can be defeated either from a barrel or a Steel Keg being thrown at it, or from Squawks spitting a coconut at it. A unique type of Bristles appears in Konveyor Rope Klash of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!; they curl up before tossing themselves at Dixie and Kiddy and can be defeated only from a barrel in this state. In Dixie Kong's Photo Album, a Bristles is categorized as part of the Terrorfirma Tuff Guys.
In the remake of Donkey Kong Country 3, curled up Bristles have a role in the Cranky's Dojo minigame, where the goal is for Cranky to deflect thirty of them as they bounce at him.
