Mecha Sonic,[1] also known as Robo Sonic,[2] is a robot replica of Sonic, just like Metal Sonic. He makes a brief appearance in the Super Mario franchise within the game Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 as a boss in the Tokyo Sky Flight minigame found in the Story Mode and the Game Room.
History
Mecha Sonic first made his appearance in the game Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as the boss the player must defeated before fighting the Death Egg Robot. A similar robot appears also named Mecha Sonic appears in the 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and a more distinct robot also named Mecha Sonic appears in Sonic & Knuckles. All of these robots, despite sharing the same name, are all different.

Mecha Sonic's boss fight in the Tokyo Sky Flight minigame is very similar to his fight in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which has him spinning around in a ball form, then shooting out spikes.
