Directional Blocks[1] are objects that appear in Super Mario 3D Land. They are purple-colored blocks with up-arrow insignia printed on it. When a player hits one from below, it will ascend for a distance that is roughly half of its height, which usually allows them to access certain blocks or collectibles they couldn't with a normal jump. Their height usually cannot be reset by normal means, and the player must replay the level that a Directional Block appears in to reset its height.
