Dream Fencing
Dream Fencing is a Dream Event in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The first version is very similar to normal Fencing, while the second one has four players run around on a platform trying to deplete their opponent's health.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
Dream Fencing in this game takes place at Dual Wharf Fencing Beach. It strongly resembles regular Fencing, except this version more closely resembles one-on-one fighting games, as the characters now have health bars and the goal is to deplete the opponents health completely and defeat them, rather than simply scoring a certain number of hits. Also, the competitors can now use "special moves" which are unique for each character. Four players duke it out in a tourney tree-style competition aiming for the top three spots. This is just like Dream Table Tennis, regular Table Tennis, and regular Fencing.
When a player uses a special move, a character's icon of the top part of their face flashes across the screen and they unleash an attack that can only be blocked if the opponent strikes the player while he or she is charging the attack. It's possible to knock the player out of the arena which will make them take some damage. If an opponent if forced to back up as far as they can go, the other player can use a special move and blast them out of the stage. If the knocked off player still has enough health left, the fight will continue with both players set to their starting positions.
DS version
Much like regular fencing, in the DS version, the player slides the stylus at the opponent to hit them. Sliding up will block a strike from the opponent. However, if the opponent blocks the player's strike, the player must slide the stylus back and forth across the screen quickly to recover. To use a special move, the stylus must be slid down. If there are no special moves charged up, the special move will not work. In order to move, the player uses the D-pad.
Missions
Mario
Mario's fifth mission in the Wii version is Dream Fencing. To win it, he must win the match with a special move.
Shadow
Shadow's second mission in the Wii version is Dream Fencing. To win it, he must knock his opponent out of bounds once.
Bowser
Bowser's sixth and final mission is the same as Shadow's second mission. To win this mission, he must knock his opponents out of bounds, but instead of doing it once, he must do it twice to win.
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games
Dream Fencing reappears in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. It is very different compared to the first game, as players run on a three-dimensional plane instead of a two-dimensional plane, and they can get items and recover their health, and there are four players playing at once instead of two at a time. This event takes place at Ocean Palace from Sonic Heroes. This event is used for the rematch for Eggman Nega.
Gameplay
Players have two minutes to deplete all of their opponent's health. Knocking a player off the stage causes massive damage. If someone is in danger of falling off, they can swing the and (or swing the up and down, if playing with just a Wii Remote) to get themselves back on the stage. If someone gets knocked out, they can return as a bomb to attack the other players in a similar style to becoming a Mini Bomb Kart in Battle mode of Mario Kart 64. The game ends when there is only one player still standing. If there are two or more players still standing when the time is up, then the player with the most health left wins. Players can once again use Special Thrusts.
Occasionally Egg Pawns or Egg Flappers appear on the stage. Running into them deals damage to the player, but using a thrust they can knock them into other players, making them lose health.
Rules
In this event, 4 characters face each other on a stage to try to be the last one standing.

Tips
- Knocking rivals off the stage causes big damage, so look for a chance to send them over the edge.
- If you are in danger of falling off the stage, swing the Wii Remove and Nunchuck (Remote + Nunchuck) / up and down (horizontal) to regain your balance
- After you're out of the game, you can return as a bomb balloon and pay your rivals a visit.
Tricks
- Open Item Boxes to get items such as Health and Shields
- Pick up Health items to restore your health. There are two types--big and small.
- Pick up a Shield to bounce back any attack just once during a set time.
- Grab a power core, and you power up automatically! Press + (Remote + Nunchuck) / + (horizontal) together for a Special Thrust.
- If you pass over bombs burried in the ground, they appear and explode. Try to run away as fast as you can.
- Running into Egg Pawns and Egg Flappers causes damage, so watch out!
- Or try to knock them into rivals with a thrust.
