Guppy
- “What, you again? You got to be kidding me! You want to run me out of this lake? You got to get through all eight rings!”
- —Guppy, Super Mario Galaxy
Guppy is a minor character in Super Mario Galaxy. He is an orca who appears in a few of the game's missions. In two of the missions, he "takes over" a large body of water, and if Mario wishes to take it back, he has to swim through eight rings in a set amount of time. After Mario does that, Guppy rewards him with a Power Star.
Guppy is a harmless creature and, contrary to his menacing look, will not attack Mario, though he is considered a bully by the penguins and Toads. If Mario touches Guppy, he will bounce back on the ground and lose a Shell if he is holding one, but he won't take damage. Guppy appears in the Sea Slide Galaxy and the Deep Dark Galaxy. After being beaten in Sea Slide Galaxy, he becomes more friendly and actively helps the Toads look for the Silver Stars and Purple Coins during those missions. He also gives Mario some racing advice before the penguin race.
Super Mario Galaxy Trading Card Description
Guppy's bark is definitely worse than his bite. This orca may look menacing, but he's really only aggressive to penguins and Toads. To Mario, Guppy is ultimately harmless, but he does present two challenges: he'll make Mario swim through eight rings in one body of water, and if Mario bumps into him, Guppy will bounce him to the floor. Look for Guppy in the Sea Slide Galaxy and the Deep Dark Galaxy.

Trivia
- If Mario or Luigi touches Guppy's tail fin, he is hit as if he had touched an enemy, but he does not lose health.
- According to the Prima guide for Super Mario Galaxy, Guppy was originally going to be a dolphin.
- After passing through all eight rings in the mission "Guppy and the Underground Lake", if the player swims up to Guppy, before collecting the star, he says, "All right, I'm a fish of my word. Take this." This is a typo. Guppy is an orca which makes him mammal, not a fish.
