The stomping variant of Chomp is a type of Chain Chomp that appears in Yoshi's Island DS. Stomping Chomps bounce up and down in particular areas with a loud bang. Although not as large as other big Chain Chomps such as Shark Chomps and Incoming Chomps, stomping Chomps are larger than the ordinary Chain Chomps in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Some stomping Chomps can jump straight up and down, while others can bounce left and right as well.
In the Island Museum, stomping Chomps are part of the Giant Enemy Exhibit, despite the fact that they are not among the largest enemies in the game. They are prominently featured in the level Rompin', Stompin' Chomps and later reappear in The Cave That Never Ends.
