History

The DK Jumbo first appears in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! as a heavyweight kart serving as the signature kart of Donkey Kong. In this game, it has Donkey Kong's trademark "DK" on the front and sides. When compared to the Wario Car (which has identical stats in-game), the DK Jumbo is slightly heavier, enabling it to easily push the Wario Car (along with the Turbo Birdo and Parade Kart) around. However, the DK Jumbo can still be pushed around by the Koopa King, Piranha Pipes, Boo Pipes, all of which are tied for being the heaviest karts in the game. The DK Jumbo is one of the only four karts with a unique engine sound, the others being the Koopa King, Barrel Train, and Parade Kart.

In terms of its actual stats, the DK Jumbo shares its top speed with the Barrel Train, Bullet Blaster, and Piranha Pipes. It is also tied with the Piranha Pipes for having the worst acceleration of all the two-star acceleration karts. The kart's width is average compared to the other heavyweight karts, being thinner than the Parade Kart and the Koopa King, but wider than the Piranha Pipes, Boo Pipes, and the Wario Car. On a side note, the DK Jumbo offers the second-weakest off-road of all karts.

Mario Kart Tour

The DK Jumbo returns in Mario Kart Tour, where is it classified as a Super kart. It uses the Wood tires from Mario Kart 7, resembling its original tires. It also lacks the second handlebar, the gray platform has been made shorter and is no longer usable, and the DK emblem on the front and sides have been replaced by the character's respective emblem. The DK Jumbo increases the duration of Jump Boost speed boosts and the amount of points earned for performing Jump Boosts.

The game introduces two variants of the DK Jumbo: a white variant, named the Chrome DK Jumbo, which is also classified as a Super kart, and a dark redwood-plated variant, called the DK Maximum, which is classified as a High-End kart.

    • Like Donkey Kong, the DK Jumbo is big and fast. Big enough to push other karts around, fast enough to leave them in the dust.
    • You'd think wooden tires would slow most karts down, but not the DK Jumbo. It's big enough to push other karts around, and fast enough to leave them in the dust.

Trivia

  • In Mario Kart 7, the Wood tires have a similar appearance to the tires of the DK Jumbo. However, unlike the DK Jumbo, they actually boost acceleration but hinder top speed.
  • A similar vehicle called the Barrel Roller appears in Mario Party 9 as the starter vehicle for the board DK's Jungle Ruins.
