Kutlass, Donkey Kong Country: Rescue on Crocodile Isle

Kutlasses are small members of the Kremling Krew and enemies which appear in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. They are one of the game's few enemies that do not reappear in Donkey Kong Land 2.

Kutlasses appear as either yellow or green. They wear a pirate hat and a black vest, and carry two large cutlass swords around, hence their name. Official artwork shows that Kutlasses have three toes on each foot, and a hat which has the Kremling Krew insignia and red feathers. According to the game's manual, Kutlasses ordered their swords from an infomercial, which looked smaller on television. Their swords are about the height of their body.

Kutlasses resemble another type of Kremling enemy, Klanks, who ride in Roller Coasters in amusement park levels.

History

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Kutlasses are found in the later level. If a Kutlass notices Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong, it runs toward them and tries to slash them with its swords. If the Kutlass misses the Kongs, its swords hit the ground, though within a few seconds, the Kutlass lifts up its swords again. Kutlasses always hold up their swords except when they attack. The Kongs take damage if they are slashed by Kutlass's swords or try to jump on Kutlass while its swords are up. A Kutlass is vulnerable to a jump attack if its sowrds are on the ground. Regardless of how Kutlasses hold their swords, they can be defeated by a throwable object (such as a barrel), a team-up throw, or by an Animal Friend.

The green variants only appear in levels of K. Rool's Keep aside from a Lost World level, Fiery Furnace, and a Gloomy Gulch level, Web Woods. Green Kutlasses are both faster at attacking and pulling their swords off the ground than their yellow counterpart.

In the ending's Cast of Characters, a Kutlass appears under the Kremling Kuthroats category.

In the Game Boy Advance, the Kongs can obtain a photograph of Kutlass from Rambi Rumble. Its photograph appears on the sixth page of the scrapbook.

Trivia

  • In the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 2, Kutlasses (as well as Klanks) have the voice of Koshas, similar enemies from Donkey Kong 64, except that it is higher-pitched.
