Template:Levelbox The Start[1] is the first level in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. It acts as a way to help the player learn the controls and mechanics of the game before sending them to the actual main game. This stage has the distinction of being the only standard level in the game that cannot be reentered upon completing it through normal means.

The player starts on a long stretch of land. Continuing forward, the player will find a number of ? Blocks and some enemies. In one of the ? Blocks is a Mushroom power-up. Further along, the player will find a Warp Pipe that leads to a room with coins. Beyond the Pipe is a series of blocks with a Koopa Troopa on the top. Afterward, the player will find a Para-Goomba as well as some blocks that help the player reach some coins, followed by some Warp Pipes containing Piranha Plants. Beyond those are a group of ? Blocks with one containing a 1-Up Heart and the other containing a Star. Grabbing the Star will allow the player to defeat the enemies up ahead easier. The checkpoint bell is also close by.
After the checkpoint, there are a row of ? Blocks with a Koopa Troopa walking around on top. In second to last block is a Fire Flower power-up (which contains a fire flower even if Mario is small). Afterward, there is a 1-Up Heart underneath a row of the blocks, which Mario can break by Spin Jumping. Beyond the blocks is a Warp Pipe with a Piranha Plant, flanked by blocks which can be destroyed with fireballs, which leads to a room containing coins. After the pipe is a set of stairs with Spikes at the bottom of the pit between them. After this is the goal of the level, which has steps of breakable blocks leading to the bell at the top.
