A Bero[1] (generically referred to by Nintendo Power as spook heads[2]) is an enemy in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. They are based on the chōchin-obake, a paper lantern in Japanese mythology brought to life on its one hundredth "birthday." Bero are invincible and appear only in Pumpkin Zone Level 2, where they attack with their tongue. Bero can be used as platforms.

A Bero gives bad food to Wario in volume 8 of Super Mario-kun.
