The Mario vs. Luigi Tour is the seventy-eighth tour of Mario Kart Tour, which begins on September 7, 2022 and ends on September 20, 2022. This tour pits Team Mario and Team Luigi against each other for the second time, making this the first instance of two teams from a previous Team Rally going against each other for the second time, and the first overall to feature a competition that includes the losing team of a previous rally. This tour introduces a variant of Luigi based on his knight armor from Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which in turn is based on Mario's knight helmet and armor from Super Mario Odyssey. It also introduces Luigi Raceway from Mario Kart 64 and Ghost Valley 2 from Super Mario Kart (which had previously been teased back during the 2020 Halloween Tour) as classic courses, the former of which marks all classic courses from Mario Kart 7 being present in Mario Kart Tour as of this tour, and the latter making this the first tour since the 2021 Holiday Tour to introduce a new SNES course.[1][2] This is the first tour since the Hammer Bro Tour to introduce two classic courses simultaneously, and also the second tour in a row to introduce two non-city courses simultaneously.
This is the last tour to feature the tenth set of Expert Challenges, which started in the Bangkok Tour.
This tour marks the beginning of a 2-tour event to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Mario Kart Tour. This tour features an upgraded Token Shop which includes items like Mario (Classic), Luigi (Classic), the Starchute, the Silver Starchute, and a golden pipe. The Gold Standard, which was originally exclusive to the Coin Rush mode, made its first appearance outside of the aforementioned mode in this tour as an unlockable kart, which can be obtained as a reward for placing high in this tour's ranked cups. Each pipe during the event also has three free pulls instead of the usual two, bringing the total number of free pulls up to six. This tour also introduces the first set of two 3rd Anniversary Challenges cards, with the card offering rubies for completing the individual challenges, and clearing all challenges gives players the High-End Toad (Party Time).
This tour's Coin Rush course is Wii DK Summit, which was reused from the Snow Tour. The menu's background features the Luigi hot-air balloon and the grandstand from N64 Luigi Raceway as the landmark for this tour.
Starting from this Team Rally onwards, the reward of the title screen changing to an image of the winning team's captain driver two tours after the Team Rally ends has been removed.

Today's Challenge
Players' most recently used kart and glider are chosen, and favorite and favored ones have extra priority. Opponents are arranged randomly. On day 1 of this tour, players finish a race in GBA Bowser's Castle 3 in the Mii Cup using the Goomba Mii Racing Suit for a free pipe launch. Starting from day 2, players have to finish a race in the earliest incomplete course that is not in any of the ranked cups using the driver shown on the course's thumbnail every day to obtain the corresponding reward in the table below. Once all of the courses are completed, the courses are selected at random.
