Mario Party 10 is an upcoming game for the Wii U. It is the tenth home console installment in the Mario Party series, and features many reused gameplay elements from its predecessor. It is confirmed that the game has a standard Party Mode (similar in gameplay to the Party Mode from Mario Party 9), and a new mode called Bowser Party, in which one player controls Bowser using the GamePad, and exclusive minigames can be played. Mini Stars return in normal party, as well as vehicles in all modes. The game is also planned to be compatible with amiibo.^[1]

Gameplay

Mario Party 10 offers three basic modes of play: Mario Party, Bowser Party, and amiibo Party each with their own unique styles of play.

Mario Party

Mario Party is the gameplay similar to Mario Party 9, where the characters have to get to the end of the path with the most Mini Stars. Characters move around in vehicles taking turns being the "captain", or rolling the dice. The Mini Stars are thus returning from Mario Party 9. There will be some obstacles on the path, like a Whomp blocking it, like in Perilous Palace Path from Mario Party: Island Tour. Also, item shops return, this time in the form of Toad Houses.

Bowser Party

Bowser Party is a new mode of gameplay featuring Bowser. There will be five players instead of four. Up to four players control Mario and his friends with Wii Remotes, with the fifth player playing against them by using the GamePad to control Bowser. Mini Stars are replaced by Hearts. The goal of Bowser is to deplete all the other players hearts, whilst the goal of the other players is to make it to the end of the course with at least one heart between them. Bowser rolls multiple dice, corresponding to the number of other players available. If Bowser catches up to the other players, he forces them to play a randomly selected "Bowser Minigame", where hearts are lost if the players are attacked.

amiibo Party

Another new mode is the amiibo Party^[2]; players can scan in any amiibo based on a playable character and play on small boards designed for that character with up to 3 other amiibo figurines. Computer players are represented by cardboard cutouts instead of amiibo. It is similar to the Mario Party playstyle prior to Mario Party 9.

Toad's Room

Toad's Room is an extra mode, featuring a shop where players can buy things like vehicles for the boards and music in the game, a photo booth with characters in the game, and a Challenge mode.^[3]

Characters

A total of 15 playable characters have been confirmed for Mario Party 10. Of these characters, 3 (Rosalina, Bowser, and Spike) are fully playable for the first time in the series (although Bowser is only playable in the Bowser Party and amiibo Party modes), and 3 (Toadette Spike and Hammer Bro) are unlockable.^[6] Also, Donkey Kong makes his first full playable appearance in the series since Mario Party 4.

Mushroom Park^[21] An amusement park board with Peach's Castle and several attractions. It resembles Yoshi Park from Mario Super Sluggers. The miniboss is Mega Goomba^[22] and the final boss is Petey Piranha ^[23]

Haunted Trail^[21] A haunted board with different areas based on a graveyard, haunted woods, and swamp.^[24] The miniboss is Sledge Brother^[25] and the final boss is King Boo.

Whimsical Waters^[21] A lagoon-based board that has varying levels of depth underwater.^[2] The miniboss is Blooper and the final boss is Cheep Chomp.

Airship Central^[21] A cloud board where players try to take down airships. It resembles Meringue Clouds from New Super Mario Bros. U.^[26] The miniboss is Mega Monty Mole and the final boss is Kamek.

Chaos Castle^[21]

A board based upon Bowser's Castle.^[2] The miniboss is a Mega Mechakoopa and the final boss is Bowser/Dry Bowser.

Dice Space - Gives the player a random Dice Block.
Green Space - Does nothing.
Event Space - Causes an event.
Lucky Space - Starts a beneficial event that helps the player.
Unlucky Space - Starts an event that harms the player.
Minigame Space - Starts a minigame.
Bowser Jr. Space - Spins a roulette, which acts similar when the player lands on a Bowser Space.

Fruit Scoot Scurry - A minigame in which players need to collect as much fruit as possible in a Layer-Cake Desert type area.
Beeline Shrine - A minigame in which players must jump to avoid bees.
Cheep Cheep Leap - A minigame in which players (in their invincible form) must jump to hit Cheep Cheeps.
Peepa Panic^[28] - A minigame in which the players must avoid Peepas or else be slowed down.^[2]
Spiked Ball Scramble^[29] - A minigame in which players must avoid Ball 'n' Chains while traveling on a narrow path.^[2]
Bob-omb Bogey^[29] - A golfing-based minigame in which the player earns points by hitting their ball first.^[30]
A minigame in which players are balancing on balls and must roll over all the switches on the field.^[31]
A minigame which oversees the march of Goombas, Galoombas, and Goombrats.
Rapid River Race^[32] - A minigame which involves the players racing in rafts, while avoiding Urchins.^[18]
Snake Block Party^[33] - A platforming minigame which involves Snake Blocks.^[18]
Soar to Score^[29]A minigame in which players spin around on a rope, let go and land on a target. Players are given points depending on where they land.^[34]
Cliffside Crisis^[32] - A minigame in which players must walk across and dodge Bomps.^[34]
Ice Slide, You Slide^[29] - A minigame in which players must walk down an icy path and jump over and under Flipruss.^[34]
A minigame in which players have 10 seconds to get in front of rivals and strike a pose for the camera.^[34]
Shy Guy Shuffle^[28] - A minigame in which players must try to choose a Shy Guy with the most food on his head.^[34]
Paintball Battle - A minigame in which each player has a paintball gun and must shoot the other players.^[34]
Magma Meltdown^[32] - A minigame which involves lava and low platforms.^[34]^[34]
Fruit Fetch^[28] - A minigame in which players must collect fruit and avoid Urchins and Big Urchins. The players are standing on a platform covered in water.^[34]
Goomba Gatcha^[29] - A minigame which oversees Goombas and Goombrats in a jungle environment.^[34]
Cloud Cover^[35] - A minigame in which players have to race up a tower in Lakitu clouds. They also have to dodge Fuzzys.^[34]
Platform Push^[28] - A minigame which involves poisonous water and green platforms.^[34]
A minigame which involves players standing on a tall platform.^[34]
Fruit Cahoots^[28] - A minigame in which players must press the button to activate a spring on the conveyer belt to collect fruit while avoiding Bob-ombs.^[11]
Blooper Blast-Off^[35] - A minigame in which players ride in sub-marines shaped like Bloopers.^[34]
A minigame which involves Swoopers in a pipe filled cavern.^[34]

Dice 'n' Dash^[29] - A minigame which involves a dark room and blocks with different items on them.^[34]
Balloon Blast Bash^[29] - A minigame in which players must pump up a green balloon in a forest setting.^[34]

2-vs-2

Ground Pound Pals^[36] - A minigame in which the teams are on opposite sides of the field and must ground pound panels across from each other to earn the coins on panels in-between.^[2]
Bobsled Battle^[37] - A minigame in which players are sledding down a mountain collecting coins.^[31]
Boo Burglars^[29]A minigame in which players work together to catch Boos.^[18]
Soccer Brawl^[29] - A Soccer game in which players balancing on balls must knock the soccer ball into the opposing goal.
Goombrat Combat^[36] - A minigame in which players must push Goombrats into the other team's territory.^[34]
Shape Up^[29]A minigame in which players take turns stacking blocks.^[34]
Bump, Set, Spike^[36] - A volleyball-based minigame in which 1 teammate hits the ball in the air and the other teammate spikes it.^[34]
Murky Maze^[36] - A minigame in which players are running in a dark maze while holding a light block. They have to meet up to win.^[34]
Bouncy Bounty^[36] A minigame which involves collecting coins.^[34]
Revolving Relay^[36] A minigame which involves clouds and moving platforms.^[34]

1-vs-3

A minigame in which the players must avoid being in the path of Skewers by hiding behind blocks on the field. In the Nintendo Direct trailer, Donkey Kong can be seen in the top-left corner of the screen, pressing switches that seemingly activate the Skewers.^[2]
Bullet Bill Bullies^[29] - A minigame in which the team of 3 aiming Bill Blasters at the other player who is on a Switchboard.^[34]
A minigame in which has the single person trying to push buttons that activate spring loaded floor panels. The other players have to dodge the springs.^[34]
Keep-Away Mayhem^[29]A minigame in which 3 players pass a soccerball and one player tries to intercept it.^[34]
A minigame in which players have to hit drums with correct timing.^[11]
A minigame in which 3 players are holding watermelons and one player has a hammer. The single player has to break the watermelons.^[34]
Movin' Mushrooms^[35] - A minigame in which players have to tilt platforms to knock items into their areas.^[34]
Bubble Squabble^[35] - A minigame which involves bouncy platforms.^[34]
Cheep Cheep Check^[29] - A minigame which involves a lot of Cheep Cheeps.^[34]
Hop, Drop, and Roll^[35] - A minigame in which the three players dodge Grrols and Bullet Bills fired by the single player.^[11]

Boss Battle Minigames

Mega Goomba's Ladder Leap^[2] - A Boss minigame in which players must jump and defeat a Mega Goomba.
Petey's Bomb Battle^[38] - A Boss minigame in which the players must throw Bombs at Petey Piranha.
A minigame in which the players are fighting a Sledge Brother with cards. The player must memorize which card contains a Bullet Bill to attack the boss. If the players choose a Sledge Hammer card, the boss will attack with his sledge hammer.^[34]
A minigame involving King Boo and platforms floating above a swamp. The player must jump on the plataforms to reach and jump on the switches to attack with light. There are some false plataforms with Boos on it.^[9]
A minigame in which players are in boats with cannons and are fighting a Cheep Chomp.^[34]
A minigame in which the four players fight against Blooper.^[9]
Mega Monty Mole's Maze Mischief^[29] - A minigame in which players must navigate a maze to get to a Mega Monty Mole, which is the boss. The person who finishes the maze first gets to shoot a bigger cannon.^[34]
A minigame in which the player rides a rocket in the sky and shoots missiles at Kamek.
A minigame in which players must swing on a rope, to land on a Mega Mechakoopa.^[34]
A minigame in which players are fighting Bowser. The players are riding in tanks and they have to shoot Bowser who is riding a bigger tank. Each player can take two hits from Bowser. When players get hit they become small but players can get a mushroom to return to normal size. When Bowser's tank gets destroyed, he falls into the surrounding lava, turns into Dry Bowser, and grows huge. ^[34]

Bowser vs. All

Bowser's Bad Breath - A Bowser Minigame where the GamePad player move the gamepad to angle Fireballs to shoot at others.
Bowser's Fire Bar Fury - A game where the GamePad player tilts the gamepad to move Firebars to hit players.
Bowser's Painball^[39] - A game where the GamePad player plays a pinball machine with the other players inside.
Bowser's Wicked Wheel^[40] - A game where the GamePad player controls the speed of a spinning wheel to knock players into a pair of Amps.
Bowser's High Dive^[41] - A minigame where there are two platforms which players can switch from and Bowser can pick which one to Ground Pound.^[42]
Bowser's Clawful Climb^[32] - A minigame in which players must climb up the side of a tower with Bowser climbing behind them, avoiding his claws smashing them.^[2]
Bowser's Hammer Slammer^[32] - A minigame in which players must avoid being smashed by Bowser with a hammer by moving around a track surrounding him.^[30]
Bowser's Sinister Slots^[43] minigame where Bowser spins a wheel that aims Bullet Bills at the selected player who must dodge them.^[34]
Bowser's Roulette Rage^[32] - A minigame where Bowser spins a roulette table, with safe spots and Bowser spots. Those who end up on the Bowser spots lose hearts.^[34]
Bowser's Bogus Bingo^[29]A minigame where Bowser plays a reverse-styled bingo game with the other players, in which players lose hearts depending on how many lines the players make on their boards.^[34]

Bonus Minigames

Jewel Drop, a tile-matching minigame similar to played with two players, with the players on the sides standing on pumps.^[44]
Badminton Bash, a minigame in which the players play badminton.^[34]^[45]
A minigame in which the player has a hammer and has to fight Bowser Jr in an arena.^[34]

Wario Land series: The right half of the Wario amiibo board displays many elements from the Wario Land series, such as Wario's hard hat and the Wario Car.
WarioWare series: The left half of the Wario amiibo board features many elements from the WarioWare series, such as Wario's biker helmet and the Wario Bike.
Donkey Kong Country series: Various elements from the series appear on Donkey Kong's amiibo board, including a Barrel Cannon, bananas, and a Mine Cart and rails. The sprite form of Donkey Kong is based on its cameo in Returns, though it now lacks the Wii Remote it held in that game.
New Super Mario Bros. series: The fortresses and castles on the boards are based on their appearance in the games from this series. Stone-heads and Nabbit return from New Super Mario Bros. U, the former in the minigame Fruit Scoot Scurry and the latter as an ally to Bowser in Bowser Party. The airship design from this game also appears in the sky board.
Donkey Kong: Donkey Kong's sprite form from this game appears on his amiibo board.
Super Mario Bros.: In the amusement park board, sprites of Goombas and Koopa Troopas from this game appear as merry-go-round carriages. And in the Bowser Painball minigame, a remix of the Super Mario Bros. Overworld theme plays.
Super Mario Galaxy: Rosalina's amiibo board features several elements from this game and its sequel, including a Launch Star, Lumas, the red Starshroom, Star Bits, and several planetoids.
Mario Party DS: The Bowser's Painball minigame resembles the board Bowser's Pinball Machine.
Mario Super Sluggers: The amusement park board resembles Yoshi Park, one of the fields in this game. The Wiggler roller coaster and swinging ship from this field also return on the board.
Mario Party 9: The core gameplay mechanics in this game: Mini Stars and Mini Ztars, travelling around in a car, and fighting minibosses and bosses at the middle and end of the board return.
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon: The Luigi amiibo board appears based on this game, having a model of the Gloomy Manor and a sign with a Greenie on it on the board.
Super Mario 3D World: Many of the Bowser minigames are placed in World Bowser, Clear Pipes appear in a special minigame mode.^[46]

Trivia

Mario Party 10 is the first game in the Mario Party series to be given a 7+ age rating by PEGI as opposed to a 3+ rating, although this game was provisionally rated 3+ when announced at E3 2014.
Mario Party 10 is the first game in the Mario Party series since Mario Party 4 to feature Donkey Kong as a major playable character, and the first since Mario Party 5 to feature Donkey Kong as a playable character at all (with him being playable exclusively in the Super Duel Mode of Mario Party 5).
- It is also the first game since Mario Party 4 to feature Bowser as a playable character, even though Bowser was only playable in the Beach Volley Folley minigame.
