World 5-1

Overview

This is the first and only canyon level of the game. Mario will start in the canyon, seeing a Boomerang Flower. Ahead, there are three cactus and two Pokeys. These foes are guarding a inclined area that leads to a more elevated place of the cliff, where Mario find a Boomerang Bro. and a pit with four stone Donut Lifts. Crossing this pit, he will face Tail Goombas in a stair-like carved stone. Behind it, there is a P-Switch to create a line of Rainbow Notes. After the stone, Mario must cross a tilting iron.

Star Medals

  • Star Medal 1: Upon entering the level, there will be several Pokeys near a ledge with unstable rock platforms above. Hopping on the ledge, the player should head left into a hidden Warp Pipe, which will take the player to the first Star Medal.
  • Star Medal 2: The player should hop onto one of the Tail Thwomps at the top of the cliff to reach the Star Medal.
  • Star Medal 3: While on the moving platform directly after the checkpoint, the player should acquire a Boomerang Flower from a nearby Boomerang Bro. After a while, the final Star Coin will appear and must be grabbed using the boomerang.

World 5-2

Overview

A dungeon-like level with Spinies and lava that is played from an overhead view, as a homage for the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series.

Star Medals

  • Star Medal 1: When the player reaches the room with the rotating Spikebar, they should take the south path to reach this first medal.
  • Star Medal 2: The player must have a Fire Flower in tow and head to the west path of the rotating Spikebar where the previous Star Medal was found. Lighting the four torches in this room will make a cage holding the Star Medal open, along with the "puzzle solved" sound effect from The Legend of Zelda series.
  • Star Medal 3: Near the end of the level, there will be a long row of spiked cylinders. If the player makes it to the end, they can grab the final medal and exit the level.

World 5-3

Overview

A Sky level with many moving platforms and blocks with spikes. Flophoppers appear here.

Star Medals

  • Star Medal 1: After passing the checkpoint, the first medal can be easily obtained by jumping over the block with the first swinging platform.
  • Star Medal 2: Shortly after the swing platforms, the player should come to an area with Flophoppers and a pole. Climbing up to the top of the pole will take the player to a Rainbow Music Block. Jumpinh on the block will take the player to a Coin Heaven area that contains the second Star Medal.
  • Star Medal 3: After taking the Rainbow Block, the player will find themselves on one final set of moving platforms. They should stay on the left platform while avoiding the hazards, as it will take them to the Star Medal.

World 5-4

Overview

An underground level with Monty Moles, Rocky Wrenches and Mega Moles. Also Warp Pipe cutouts are found here.

Star Medals

  • Star Medal 1: Shortly after entering the level, the player will encounter a Monty Mole. After defeating the mole, the player should jump around trying to hit an invisible block, which will serve as a platform to reach the first medal.
  • Star Medal 2: The player should encounter another Monty Mole shortly after the first medal. The pest should be disposed of quickly. Once it has been defeated, the player must wall jump to reach a small opening where the Star Medal lies.
  • Star Medal 3: After passing the checkpoint, the player should fall down the hole. They should then come across three Mega Moles walking along a path. After defeating or avoiding these large moles, the player should roll under another small opening, coming upon yet another Mega Mole. Dropping down will make the player land on a small ledge, where the third medal lies beyond the small opening.

World 5-5

  • Star Medal 2: After the checkpoint, there will be a multitude of bouncy platforms. The first medal is located between two platforms and requires the Propeller Block in order to get it successfully.
  • Star Medal 3: The third medal can be found on the way down to the flagpole.

World 5-Castle

Another castle level featuring Dry Bones, Lava Geysers, Draglets, Thwomps, Hammer Bros. and Rotating Cylinders where another False Bowser (a Magikoopa) is fought.
