The Freezeflame Galaxy is a galaxy in the game Super Mario Galaxy. It features the Fire Flower and the Ice Flower. It has a water and ice area, and a fire and lava area. This is also where Baron Brrr resides. The galaxy appears to be split into three large planets. One is made up of water and ice, the second of fire and lava, and the third one is a combination of both with a rocklike core. There are also two minor planetoids, once that decides which planet Mario goes to, and one that features paths of lava and paths of ice and is also where Cosmic Mario is raced, but without the lava.

This planet is a large sphere with two circular openings on either side that connect across the middle of it by means of a small passageway. One of the sides is filled with freezing water and many Urchins. There are also a few snow covered platforms sticking up out of the water. The other side is filled with lava, where Mario will find a double-sided cage that holds a Fire Flower. In the Hot and Cold Collide mission, Mario must spin a valve on one side of the cage in order to unlock it and access the Fire Flower, which is needed to complete the level. The tides on each side of the planet alternate in level.

This a big green ball with two circular openings that connect with a small passageway. One of the openings is filled with freezing water and the other is burning lava. The tides on each side correspond with each other depending on how high one of the tides are.
The background music changes depending on which side of the planet Mario is on – "Ice Mountain" is used for the icy side (like in Freezy Peak), and "Lava Path" is used for the lava side (like in the Lava Core Planet). If the player looks up by the planet, they can see the Power Star halo effect. This is the location of the Power Star from the Hot and Cold Collide level. This halo is present on all levels, regardless of the scenario that was chosen.

These are actually many small non-gravitational platforms made of pure ice or lava. There is slso several rock platforms with snow on them, these serve as resting platforms. Later in the game, the lava ones are transformed into ice.
This planet is also surrounded by multiple black holes, most of them being of substantial size, which will suck Mario and Luigi in if they fall off at any point.

Missions
The Mario starts off on a icy donut shaped platform. After talking to a Penguin, he must utilize his ice skating abilities to catch it. The Penguin allows Mario to use his Launch Star and comments on how he has a small chance of surviving. Once Mario uses the Launch Star, he has to ascend to the summit of the icy mountain. Mario had to stay away from the water on the planet, as it was freezing cold and would gradually drain his life. Mario also had to avoid to freezing Brrr Bits. Using the Ice Flower's power, he could walk on freezing water and stand on broken water pipes. Once the Mario got to the top, he would have to fight Baron Brrr and take the Power Star as his prize.

Again, Mario starts off on a donut, but this time he must collect all five Star Chips frozen in various parts of the icy donut planet. After using the Launch Star, Mario ends up in the molten core planet of the Freeezeflame Galaxy. On this planet, Mario must be cautious of the red Urchins rolling around here and the fireballs springing from the lava. Once the Mario obtains the Fire Flower, he will gain the ability to shoot fire, allowing him to defeat red Urchins and light torches. Every time Mario lit a pair of torches, a new path would open for him. A new enemy is featured deeper in this level named Burn Bits, which are essentially the same as Brr Bits except that they were cloaked in fire. At the end of the stage, Mario had to light two torches to open the cage holding the Power Star.

Mario starts on the same doughnut, but now it is covered in fire. The player then goes to a planet with both fire and water, the latter of which rises and falls with the tides. When the player lights the torches with the Fire Flower, they will go to some platforms in the sky. It is only possible to step on ice so the Ice Flower is needed to get the Power Star.

The Freezeflame Galaxy is a galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy, accessed via the Bedroom. Its theme is the contrast between hot and cold environments, with roughly half of the areas visited being freezing landscapes covered in ice and snow, while the other half consists of ruins above pools of lava, inhabited by fire enemies. The cold portion of this galaxy is featured most prominently; four out of its six missions solely take place on icy planetoids. Baron Brrr, the galaxy's boss, also resides on the icy half. The name of this area is a play on the term "freezeframe".

While this galaxy does not return in Super Mario Galaxy 2, the Shiverburn Galaxy is similar in both its name and concept. The two galaxies also share the same background music.

Planets/Areas[edit]

Starting Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an acceptable name is found, then the section should be changed to the new title.

Mario on the Starting Planet.
Freezeflame Galaxy
The ice planet infused with balls of lava.

The starting planet of the Freezeflame Galaxy is a toroidal mass of ice with several crystals and stone stumps on the surface. This planet has its own gravitational pull, allowing Mario to explore its underside. Two boulders roll along the inner side of the ring. The first time Mario lands here, he must ice skate around it to catch a small Penguin and make the Launch Star appear. In Freezeflame's Blistering Core, Mario must collect five Star Chips to make five Pull Stars and the Launch Star appear. In Hot and Cold Collide, this planet becomes infused with balls of fire and lava.

Freezy Peak[edit]

The Freezy Peak in the Freezeflame Galaxy

Freezy Peak[1] is essentially the main planet in the galaxy, as it is the most often visited by Mario. It is a large planet in the shape of a very high and rocky mountain with three levels of lakes of freezing water. Mario first lands on a large ice slide at the base of the mountain; a second, smaller slide is hidden above the first lake. The slide ends before a small icy area inhabited by Goombas. Hot and Cold Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an acceptable name is found, then the section should be changed to the new title.

Mario flying toward the Hot and Cold Planet.
The two sides from the Hot and Cold Planet.

Ice and Lava Platforms[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an acceptable name is found, then the section should be changed to the new title.

Ice Mario skating across the Ice and Lava Platforms.

These are square platforms made of pure ice or lava, forming a pathway with alternating gravity directions. An Ice Flower is provided so Mario can skate across the lava platforms. This is the final planet of Hot and Cold Collide, with the Power Star resting at the end of the path. In the mission Frosty Cosmic Mario/Luigi Race, the lava platforms are replaced with additional ice platforms.

Sun Planets[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an acceptable name is found, then the section should be changed to the new title.

The Lava Planets
The three Sun Planets.
