Planets/Areas
Starting Planet
The first Planet that Mario visits contains many Honeybees, Ruby Rocks, Slurples, and on occasion Mandibugs. The first Bee Mushroom is located on this planet. There are also Flipbugs on this planet, as well as a large waterfall in the middle. The area behind the waterfall has a lot of honey on the ground which slows Mario down. A Launch Star at the end of this area will lead the player to the Flower Planet. The Toad Brigade and the first Power Star can be found on the top of a large tree here. During the second mission, Mario can use a Sproutle Vine to reach an area with a Sling Star, leading to another area with a button and a Wiggler around it. When Mario presses it, it leads to the side of the starting planet, an area with boxes on them and a Launch Star leading to the Hat Planets. The area can also be reached in other missions with skilled jumps, though the Launch Star is not present. In mission three, the Queen Bee is behind the water, asking for Mario's assistance. A Launch Star appears later on, taking Mario to the Bugaboom Planet.

Enemies
There is a group of Star Bits to the immediate right of the starting area that form a large "M", in reference to Mario. There is another group of Star Bits in the Gold Leaf Galaxy that are in the same position as these Star Bits (mirror-wise, of course), which form a large "L", in reference to Luigi.

Observation Deck
The Observation Deck is a wooden platform with three stories, which only exists in the Trouble on the Tower mission. The mini-boss and Power Star of Trouble on the Tower are found here. Mario must use a swing here to get across the pit. At the bottom of this pit, a trampoline can be found. If Mario falls into the pit, there is a Life Mushroom guarded by two Mandibugs on the bottom level of the observation deck. Two trampolines can be used to get Mario up to the second level, which also has two Mandibugs and two walls for Mario to wall jump, so that he can get to the third level. In the third level, Mario must ground pound a button while avoiding another Mandibug. After doing so, the windmill starts, and helps Mario reach the mini-boss, a Mandibug Stack.

Levels
Flower Planet
Bee Mario Takes Flight!
Mario will begin this level and all others on the largest planet in the Honeyhive Galaxy. Mario needs to follow the path up the hill to a ? Coin, which reveals the game's first Bee Mushroom. The player has to collect the powerup and fly up the nearby ledges. (Do note that the Mushroom is not an absolute necessity at this point, but will help greatly). At the end of the tunnel is a tree stump with a hole in it. The player will have to jump down the hole and slide down the slide. Mario will have to fly and jump across the ledges with honey to reach the Launch Star. If Mario walks on the honey, he will be slowed down and his jumping power is reduced significantly. Mario will land next to a pond filled with lily pads. One of the platforms has a dandelion that Mario can spin up to gain height. The player can use the flower to reach the flower platforms in the air, and Mario will have to carefully fly across them whille avoiding the water jets to reach the Launch Star. Mario will be faced with his first honeycomb wall. Mario will have to climb up the wall to reach the pond where the Bee Queen resides. The Bee Queen is complaining about 'a horrible itching plague' (she is covered in Star Chips), so the player will have to fly over to her and climb on her to collect them. Then the player will have to use the Launch Star to end up at the top of a tree on the main planet. The leader of the Toad Brigade will present Mario with a Power Star. After the completion of this mission, Toads will walk around the Comet Observatory, and begin construction of the Starshroom.

This planet contains many floating flower platforms. The bottom of the planet is full of lily pads floating in water that work as landing spots for Bee Mario. Several rock-spitting Octoguys, a Flipbug, and some Piranha Plants reside around the edges of the pond. Mario must reach the spinning flower platforms floating above this planet by using the Banandelions and the Bee Mushroom. In the middle of the floating flower platforms is a gigantic flower platform, above which is a Launch Star that takes Mario to the Queen Bee Planet when used. In between the flower platforms, several fountains are found, which continually blast water into the air and will turn Bee Mario back into Mario if he is hit.

Trouble on the Tower
Queen Bee Planet
Some enemies from a neighbouring planet, the Mandibugs, have taken residence in the Honeyhive Kingdom, though it is not quite a full-scale invasion. Of course, it is Mario's (or Luigi's) responsibility to put a stop to it! With the aid of a Bee Mushroom, he must climb up the enormous main planet, and traverse a few smaller ones, to end up on the Tower of the Kingdom. Mario or Luigi must find a switch and Star Spin it to let the platforms at the front of the tower spin. At the peak of the large wooden tower, Mario will find a Mandibug carrying a younger, smaller Mandibug on its back. When he ground pounds the small Mandibug, the larger one turns red with anger and charges at the player a lot faster - another ground pound is enough to defeat the angry Mandibug and take the Power Star he was guarding.

This planet is what the Honeybees call the "Queen's castle". The Queen Bee and some Honeybees occur here. This planet starts with a honey wall. At the bottom of the wall, a Honeybee and a Piranha Plant can be found. To climb up the wall, Mario must run into it and go upwards. It requires one jump and fly period and the rest is climbing. There are some optional jump and fly periods for shortcuts, coins, 1-Up Mushrooms, etc. At the very top of the wall, a Piranha Plant can be seen holding down a sproutle. When Mario defeats it, it releases the sproutle, which brings Mario right in front of Queen Bee. Queen Bee is hovering in the middle of the Queen Bee planet. The Queen Bee Planet is filled with water and has a rim of ground going around it. It is possible to stick to Queen Bee and climb around her.

Big Bad Bugaboom
Mushroom Twin Planets
The Mandibug infestation has hit an all-time high, and it seems that to end the invasion, the leader of the Mandibugs, the ferocious Bugaboom, must be defeated. The player must traverse a small section of the main planet to get to the tree stump encountered in the first mission (though this time it has no hole in it). At this point, Queen Bee shows up and informs Mario or Luigi to take a Launch Star to the planet where Bugaboom lives, and defeat him. The boss can be defeated by ground pounding, but he is high up in the sky so assistance is necessary. Luckily, Bee Mushrooms, honey walls and the sling flowers seen in the first mission are abundant, giving the player the necessary height to defeat the increasingly angry boss to take his Power Star.

Honeyhive Cosmic Mario/Luigi Race (Cosmic Comet)
Tubed Relay Planet
Upon entering this level, a Cosmic doppelganger of Mario or Luigi appears. Mario has to race Cosmic Mario and Luigi must race Cosmic Luigi for the star. If Cosmic Mario or Cosmic Luigi reaches the star first, Mario or Luigi loses a life. As is the case for every Cosmic Comet mission, the Luigi version is much more difficult, as Cosmic Luigi is faster, uses a lot of long jumps and doesn't hang around one area to make a jump. However, in this race, he makes one vital flaw - getting stuck in the honey floor near the end of the race.

The Honeyhive's Purple Coins(Purple Comet)
Bugaboom Planet
100 Purple Coins have been scattered around the main planet of the Kingdom, and it is up to the Mario brothers to grab them all and save the star. This mission is notorious for being one of the longest stars in the game - a huge amount of exploration is necessary, and it is possible to accidentally die while travelling to the star - the player must be very careful, and make sure to look in every nook and cranny to find every single Coin.

Mario must use the Bee Mushroom to reach the Banandelions and then fly on to the next platform. This planet is large and has a gigantic tree in the middle of it. There are several Banandelions, honey on the tree and a river of water in the way of scenery on the planet.

After rescuing Luigi from the Haunted Mansion of the Ghostly Galaxy, and helping him out in the Good Egg Galaxy and Battlerock Galaxy, his fourth destination is the Honeyhive Galaxy. Once again, he needs Mario (or the playable Luigi) to rescue him, this time from a 'big, scary bug'. He can be found hugging a tree in the first mission of the Galaxy. After completing this mission and meeting up with the NPC Luigi in the Comet Observatory, he decides that searching for Power Stars is too scary, and gives up.

Honeybee, Super Mario Galaxy

The Honeyhive Galaxy (called the Honeybee Galaxy[1] in prerelease material) is a galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy. It is the site of the Honeyhive Kingdom that is ruled by the Queen Bee and inhabited by friendly Honeybees. This forest-based galaxy is full of flowers and honey walls. The Bee Mushroom debuts here, transforming Mario into Bee Mario. This is one of the three bee-themed galaxies, the other two being the Honeyclimb Galaxy and Gold Leaf Galaxy. The aforementioned Gold Leaf Galaxy is also a mirror version of this galaxy, except with an autumn environment on the main planet and a few minor changes to the surrounding planets. In early versions of the game, Gold Leaf Galaxy planets could be found in Honeyhive Galaxy and/or vice versa, suggesting that they were originally planned as one larger galaxy.

While the galaxy does not return in Super Mario Galaxy 2, the Honeybloom Galaxy and Honeyhop Galaxy share the same bee-themed traits as this galaxy, and the Queen Bee makes a reappearance in the latter. The music theme of the galaxies is a remixed version of the theme playing in this galaxy, with additional instruments.

History[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Planets/Areas[edit]

Starting Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an official name is found, then the section should be changed to its appropriate title.

Mario landing on the Starting Planet.

Observation Deck[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an official name is found, then the section should be changed to its appropriate title.

Honeyhive Galaxy4.png

Flower Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an official name is found, then the section should be changed to its appropriate title.

Flowerplanet.png

Queen Bee Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an official name is found, then the section should be changed to its appropriate title.

Honeyhive Galaxy and Queen Bee
The Queen Bee planet.

Mushroom Twin Planets[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an official name is found, then the section should be changed to its appropriate title.

Honeyhive Galaxy2.png

The Mushroom Twin Planets[2] are two planets which twist around. They have many enemies. Several Piranha Plants are on the top mushroom planet, which Mario can defeat in order to receive star bits and coins. Then he must proceed to the bottom of the planet. Once there, Mario can jump and land in a ring of star bits on the second planet, which contains two Wigglers. At the bottom of this planet, a Launch Star can be found, which leads to the Mushroom Twin planets Planet.

Tubed Relay Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an official name is found, then the section should be changed to its appropriate title.

Honeyhive Galaxy3.png

The Tubed Relay Planet[3] is shaped like a rattle with, as the name suggests - a hollowed out "tubed" tree trunk as the handle. There is also a large bulb at the top. On the bulb at the top, many Piranha Plants are found. Defeating them will give Mario star bits or coins. A ? Coin is found nearby, which releases a Rainbow Star so that Mario can defeat all the Piranha Plants.

Bugaboom Planet[edit]

The title of this section is conjectural; an official name for the section's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an official name is found, then the section should be changed to its appropriate title.

Honeyhive Galaxy5.png

Bugaboom is fought here. When Mario arrives at the planet, two platforms are found, each one with a Banandelion. The first one also has a Bee Mushroom, and the second platform has three coins. Mario must use the Bee Mushroom to reach the Banandelions and then fly on to the next platform. This planet is large and has a gigantic tree in the middle of it. There are several Banandelions, honey on the tree and a river of water in the way of scenery on the planet.

Trivia[edit]

 • Planets identical to the ones from Honeyhive Galaxy appear in Duludubi Star, a knockoff of Super Mario Galaxy published by Fantawild.[4]
 • This galaxy and the Space Junk Galaxy are the only galaxies with two back-to-back boss missions in the original Super Mario Galaxy, counting only "main" missions. Coincidentally, both have the boss in the last two major missions.
