Balls on chains,[1] also referred to as cogs,[2] are a type of platform found exclusively in the third level of the Mario Zone of Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, in which they appear in a lighter color and a darker color. The light-colored balls on chains are stationary platforms, but the dark-colored variant moves along the length of the chain for a finite amount of time when Mario jumps on it, eventually flashing and disappearing. These balls on chains have the tendency to move in the path of enemies, such as Bullet Bills and Tatenoko.
