The Dueling Glove is an item that appears in the Mario Party series. It allows the player to start a duel with another player.

History[edit]

Mario Party 2[edit]

In Mario Party 2, the Dueling Glove allows the player to challenge another player to a duel in which they wager coins. The amount of coins is chosen by the user of the glove. Additionally, the duel minigame depends on the stage it is used on. As described in Mario Party 2's character descriptions, it is Wario's favorite item in the game, being the master of dueling; although this only means that he is more likely to buy it or select it in an Item Game when controlled by the CPU.

Mario Party 3[edit]

Dueling Gloves reappear in Mario Party 3, where they have the same use, except that the duel minigames for them are more varied, not depending on the stage. In the British version, it is spelled "Duelling Glove".

Mario Party: Star Rush[edit]

The Dueling Glove, known in-game as the Duel Glove, reappears in Mario Party: Star Rush as a usable item in Toad Scramble. This time, the two competing players wager allies and not coins, as the latter feature is reserved for the Coin Glove in Balloon Bash mode.

Mario Party: The Top 100[edit]

Dueling Gloves return in Mario Party: The Top 100, with the purpose being about the same as Mario Party: Star Rush, except the players now wager a random amount of coins once more.

Super Mario Party[edit]

Dueling Gloves appear in Super Mario Party in Partner Party mode. When activated, the character using it will hold it in the air. It then goes to the selected character and slaps them, starting the duel.

The minigames that are activated by the Dueling Glove are random and are as follows:

  • Five cards numbered 1-5 are laid out, all face down. The character that started the duel picks first, then the selected character. Afterwards, both cards are revealed and the one with the highest number wins.
  • Both players have a button in front of them similar to a Rumble Minigame. The time will show for the first 5 seconds before fading out. When two players have pressed the button, the timer stops and the times for when the button was pushed are revealed. Whoever is closest to the time when the button was supposed to be pressed is the winner.
  • Both players have a button similar to that of the previous one. However, this time, a panel shows the buttons to push in order. If any are pushed out of the order, the placement resets. Whoever pushes all of the buttons in the correct order wins.

After the minigame, the winner goes to the losing character to steal an ally. If the loser has no allies, Toad gives the winner two coins.

Mario Party Superstars[edit]

Dueling Gloves reappear in Mario Party Superstars, retaining their function from Mario Party 2 and 3. Players that use them will get to choose a number of Coins that they and a selected foe will bet. A Duel minigame is played, and the winner receives all of the bet Coins. They are special items in this title, meaning they cannot be found at a shop, and can only be received through Lucky Spaces, Item Bags, or a nomination during the Last Five Turns Event.

Super Mario Party Jamboree[edit]

Dueling Gloves reappear in Super Mario Party Jamboree, functioning exactly like they did in Mario Party Superstars. They can now once again be purchased from the shop like in Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 3. The Super Dueling Glove allows users to duel for a star with an opponent of their choice.[1] During Pro Rules, it is possible for a Star to be wagered, given that both players in the duel have at least one Star.
