Gameplay
A Lakitu shows two pictures, each of either a Mushroom, a Lakitu's Cloud, a Green Shell, a Fire Flower, a Buzzy Beetle, a Yoshi Egg, a Cheep Cheep, or a red Koopa Paratroopa shell. In Mario Party: The Top 100, a Koopa Troopa is shown instead of a Green Shell, as well as Boos and Bullet Bills in place of Paratroopa shells and clouds. Any team who matches the slots shown gets a point. The first team with three points wins, though it is possible for them to tie, including from either side not getting three points after three rounds.
Both slots that are displayed by a Lakitu flip randomly to show a pair of objects. The pair of objects shown can be either a Mushroom, cloud, Green Shell, Fire Flower, Buzzy Beetle, Yoshi Egg, Cheep Cheep, or Red Paratroopa shell. The teams must then rotate the slot they stand upon so that the result on the machine matches the one on Lakitu's display. The first team to match the display three times wins. It is possible for both teams to score. If both teams score three points or if too many rounds pass, regardless of the teams' scores, a draw is declared.

In The Top 100, some icons have been changed: The Green Shell now shows the Koopa Troopa, the Buzzy Beetle's design resembles more of its common New Super Mario Bros. variation with the glowing red eyes, and Boos and Bullet Bills appear instead of the clouds and the Paratroopa shells.
Slot Trot ends with the winning team performing their animations, while in a tie, all team players do their loss animations.

Ending
The camera zooms in on the winners, who perform their victory animations. If a draw is declared, the players do their losing animations as "Tie" appears on the screen.

The minigame title is a play on "Foxtrot," a dance from the 1920s.

The minigame opens with the first team running forward then backward on the wheel of their machine.

Slot Trot ends with the winning team performing their animations, while in a tie, all team players do their loss animations.

The minigame title is a play on "Foxtrot," a dance from the 1920s.
