Expert Challenges are optional battle objectives that appear in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. Mario and Luigi can complete these challenges by performing specific actions; these give points that go towards various equipment rewards upon meeting that item's requirement total, with more points unlocking more useful gear.
==Mario & Luigi: Dream Team== | ==Mario & Luigi: Dream Team==
In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Expert Challenges become available upon starting the battle against Smoldergeist, and cannot be completed in the Battle Ring. All of them are tied to actions in battle. When an Expert Challenge is completed, the points are added to the total when the battle concludes. There are a total of 111 Expert Challenges in this game.
Expert Challenges have a dedicated menu, showing a complete list. It can be found under the "Collection" menu or opened up during battle on the Touch Screen. It is symbolized by a medal icon. The list sorts all the Challenges by the order they are added, but can be alternatively sorted into ordering by their type or ordering with uncompleted challenges shown first.
The types of challenges can be presumed to be:
*Bros. Attack: Get an Excellent rating using a specified Bros. Attack.
*Luiginary Attack: Get an Excellent rating using a specified Luiginary Attack.
*Excellent Ten: Get Excellent ratings on attacks ten times in a row in a specified area. This can be done across different battles.
*Dodge Ten: Do not get hit by ten enemy attacks in a row in a specified area. This can be done across different battles. Preventing the damage with effects such as the Guard Badge does not count.
*No Hitter: Finish a battle with the named enemy, where it performs a minimum of one attack, without getting hit by the named enemy at any point. If the enemy is a background enemy, it does not have to be brought into the foreground using a Taunt Ball. Preventing the damage with effects such as the Guard Badge does not count. All enemies that can inflict damage except for Gold Beanies, Nipper Plants, and enemies that exclusively appear during a boss fight have a corresponding No Hitter challenge. Certain enemies that exclusively appear together and attack together share their No Hitter challenge, so the player must avoid damage from all enemies listed as part of the same challenge.
The Excellent Jump and Excellent Hammer challenges are a final "group". For both, the player must complete a battle only using the specified attack, and get an Excellent for all attacks. Excellent Jump restricts the player to jump attacks, and Excellent Hammer restricts the player to hammer attacks.
Once all Expert Challenges are complete, their icon during a battle turns golden. Also, the challenges can no longer be sorted by uncompleted challenges.

When reaching a point requirement, a piece of gear is immediately given to the player as the battle concludes. All of them except the POW Scarf are exclusive to Expert Challenges, and therefore only one of them can be obtained per save file. All of the unique gear, except for the Golden Hammer, only sells for one Coin.
The Expert Boots, Expert Wear, and Expert Hammer get more powerful when the player has completed more Expert Challenges.

In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Expert Challenges can be completed after clearing the "Just Getting Started" challenge, and cannot be completed in Easy Mode. Expert Challenge points are used to exchange for gear in gear shops. Not all rewards are available at the outset, and require a certain number of challenge points earned to unlock, e.g. Mario/Luigi's Shocking Boots/Hammer DX unlock when 2600 points are earned and Paper Mario's expert boots/hammer unlock when 7500 points are earned altogether. The Duplex Crown is once again the ultimate reward, only when all 10000 points are earned. There are a total of 173 Expert Challenges in this game.

- This article is about the challenges in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. For the Expert Challenges sets in Mario Kart Tour, see List of challenge cards in Mario Kart Tour § Expert Challenges.
- “You will accumulate points whenever you clear Expert Challenge conditions. Hitting point targets nets you rare gear.”
- —In-game text, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Expert Challenges are optional battle objectives that appear in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. Mario and Luigi can complete these challenges by performing specific actions; these give points that go towards various equipment rewards upon meeting that item's requirement total, with more points unlocking more useful gear.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team[edit]
- Bros. Attack: Get an Excellent rating using a specified Bros. Attack.
- Luiginary Attack: Get an Excellent rating using a specified Luiginary Attack.
- Excellent Ten: Get Excellent ratings on attacks ten times in a row in a specified area. This can be done across different battles.
- Dodge Ten: Do not get hit by ten enemy attacks in a row in a specified area. This can be done across different battles. Preventing the damage with effects such as the Guard Badge does not count.
- No Hitter: Finish a battle with the named enemy, where it performs a minimum of one attack, without getting hit by the named enemy at any point.
Rewards[edit]
When reaching a point requirement, a piece of gear is immediately given to the player as the battle concludes. All of them except the POW Scarf are exclusive to Expert Challenges, and therefore only one of them can be obtained per save file. All of the unique gear, except for the Golden Hammer, only sells for one Coin.
The Expert Boots, Expert Wear, and Expert Hammer get more powerful when the player has completed more Expert Challenges.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[edit]
