Eliminated players swim to another floating patch of ice. Every player faces the Lakitu as an obstacle because it drops Buzzy Beetles on the ice, and Buzzy Beetles knock back players when touched. Players can take advantage of the Buzzy Shells by kicking them at opponents to knock them off. The last player remaining wins, even if all four players fall off, in which case the final player wins. If five minutes pass before three players fall off, the remaining players win and split a majority of the coins in the pot.
All of the characters are on a large chunk of ice, attempting to knock all the other players off. There is also a Lakitu floating above the iceberg who will drop Buzzy Beetles; although these Buzzy Beetles hurt characters, the Buzzy Beetles can prove themselves helpful in that jumping on them results in them retreating into their shell, which nearby players can kick into opponents. Whoever is the last one on the ice wins.

It is possible for all four characters to fall off the platform. If this happens, the player who last fell off will win the minigame.
In the ending, the winning player celebrates in front of three penguins on the patch of ice, while the other three do their losing animations on another patch of ice farther away. If the last player falls into the water, they celebrate on a farther patch of ice, next to the other three players who lost, and their voice is less audible. If five minutes pass without three players falling off, the remaining players celebrate.

There is a time limit of five minutes for this minigame, although the timer doesn't show until 30 seconds remain. If the time expires before 3 players fall, the remaining players win and will split all the coins in the pot.

*Although Lakitus throw Spinies in most games, one (as aforementioned) strangely tosses Buzzy Beetles in this minigame, a feat performed nowhere else. This was likely done by the developers to create a stompable enemy for the minigame.

Glacial Meltdown is a Battle minigame in Mario Party 8.

Overview[edit]

The minigame takes place on a floating patch of ice. The opening first shows the four player characters on it before a Lakitu suddenly shows up to drop a Buzzy Beetle, surprising them. One of the characters knocks the Buzzy Beetle back into the ocean.

The objective for each player is to knock their opponents into the surrounding ocean, eliminating them. They can either jump on, punch, and kick their opponents to stun them temporarily.
