Flagging Rights is a one- or two-player minigame featured only in the Extras Zone in Mario Party 8. Its name is a pun on the phrase "bragging rights." The gameplay and appearance of this minigame are nearly identical to those of Shy Guy Says from Mario Party but with only one or two players (rather than four). This is the only Mario Party 8 minigame to make use of the Nunchuk. The Wii Remote is held on the right side, and the Nunchuk is held on the left.
Introduction[edit]
The scene moves in on the player(s) on a ship along with a Shy Guy wearing a pirate hat. They are both/all wielding red and white flags.
Gameplay[edit]
The gameplay is fairly predictable: The player on the plank must raise the flag the Shy Guy commands for as long as they can. When the Shy Guy raises the red flag, the player must raise the Wii Remote. When the Shy Guy raises the white flag, the player must raise the Nunchuk. If the Shy Guy raises both flags, the player must raise both the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk. Sometimes the Shy Guy fakes the player out by raising one flag slightly and then raising another or both flags. As time passes, the player has less time to react. If the player misses even one flag, the game ends. In multiplayer mode, the game ends when one or both players miss.
Ending[edit]
In the one-player version, when the player gets a flag wrong, a different Shy Guy on the ship cuts the rope on the plank the character is standing on, making them fall into the ocean. The Shy Guy then waves at them tauntingly. In the two-player version, as soon as someone loses, the same process happens, but the screen then fades to black and then pans to the player. The winning player does a victory pose, and the losing player is dragged by the ship by a rope. If both players lose, both will be in the water in that situation.
