You're the Bob-omb is a luck-based Duel minigame in Mario Party 8. Its name is a pun on the expression "You're the bomb." It takes place in a construction site. A similar minigame appears in Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 4 as Bowser's Big Blast and Bowser's Bigger Blast, respectively. Aesthetics-wise, this minigame is also similar to Mario Party 5's Defuse or Lose.
Introduction[edit]
Two Shy Guys in cranes each put a Big Bob-omb on a stand on each side of the minigame's location. There are five switches in front of each of the stands, with cables leading to the other side, and the two players each go to one of the sides.
Gameplay[edit]
The objective is to blow up the Big Bob-omb on the other side. To do this, the players must press one of the switches in front of them to light the fuse. Only one of the cables is live. The players have 10 seconds to choose a switch. Afterwards, the players both press the chosen switch at the same time, and the fuse either stops just before the Bob-omb or goes all the way. If the fuse goes all the way, the Bob-omb on the other side explodes, causing the player on that side to lose. If both Bob-ombs explode in the same round or all of the dead wires are used, the minigame ends in a tie.
Ending[edit]
The loser is blasted into the air, falling into the ground upon descent, making a hole. The crane picks them up, while the winner performs their victory animation. In case of a tie, there are two different scenarios. If all dead wires are used, both players will jump in shock. If both Bob-ombs explode, both of the cranes will pick the players up.
Controls[edit]
- Wii Remote: Hold sideways
- Buttons
- – Move
- – Press switch
In-game text[edit]
- Rules – "Hit switches until you or your foe finds the one that blows up Big Bob-omb. There's only one live switch!"
- Hint – "Finding the detonator is a matter of luck, so cross your fingers!"
