The story begins with Mallo and his friends entering Pushmo Park (Pullblox Park in PAL regions) to play on the large wooden puzzles called Pushmo that are made by Papa Blox, an elderly man who runs the park. While Mallo is talking with Papa Blox, each of his friends becomes stuck inside of a different Pushmo, and Mallo sets out to rescue them by solving each wooden puzzle. As Papa Blox is teaching Mallo the basics of solving the puzzles, a rouge child interferes with some of the Pushmo, angering Papa Blox. Before Papa Blox can question the child, he runs away.
This microgame is a simplified version of the game ''Pushmo''. The player must move Mallo to the Goal Flag at the top of a structure called a Pushmo. All Pushmo have their flag on a block that is three blocks high. Portions of the Pushmo are blocks, which can be yellow, green, or orange. Contiguous blocks of one color appear as one object, though the nuances of this are irrelevant to this microgame. The Pushmo is randomized for each difficulty from a number of possible Pushmo.


As Mallo progresses through the park, the difficulty of the Pushmo increases until the final puzzle. After rescuing all of his friends and solving the final Pushmo, Papa Blox commends Mallo for his efforts. As they are celebrating, the rouge child returns and Mallo stops him from running away again. Papa Blox interrogates the rouge child and learns that he misbehaved because he had just moved into town and had no new friends. Mallo and his friends comfort the rouge child and become friends with him. As the sun sets, Mallo and his friends leave the park with their new friend, and they all wave Papa Blox goodbye.
Mallo can move around in any direction. His jump can go one block high; situations with jumping more complex than this are not present in the microgame. Mallow can stop and turn while jumping, and unlike ''[[Super Mario (series)|Super Mario]]'' games either action occurs instantly instead of gradually. Mallo stops at ledges that would lead to a fall farther than one block with a teetering animation. He only goes over if the player confirms they wish to fall off with a second input or sustained input. Falling in such a way always moves the player farther from the flag.  


When Mallo returns, Papa Blox reveals that there are more Pushmo to solve and opens the Bonus Pushmo. These Pushmo feature harder puzzles that don’t have children trapped in them.
Mallo's ability to pull blocks of the Pushmo out and push blocks of the Pushmo in have been removed. However, pulling blocks is still present. The 2nd level difficulty introduces a pullout-switch, a gadget from ''Pushmo''. Walking onto or jumping on a pullout-switch pulls all of the blocks matching the color of the pullout-switch outward. Note that the Goal Flag can be on top of a block which can be moved by a pullout-switch. As long as that block has not been pulled out, the flag cannot be seen or interacted with. Using a pullout-switch is required: if the Goal Flag is not hidden in a non-pulled out block then the pullout-switch pulls out blocks necessary to reach the flag. The 3rd level difficulty introduces another gadget, manholes. If Mallo enters a manhole, he appears at the other manhole in the Pushmo. The second manhole is always at the same height as the flag, and there is no way to reach the flag without using the manhole. Sometimes the manhole closer to the ground will be covered by another block of the Pushmo, requiring a pullout-switch to pull the block with the manhole out so that Mallo can use it.

Pushmo is one of 5-Volt's microgames in WarioWare Gold. It is based on the Nintendo 3DS eShop game of the same name.
