Chomps are Piranha Plant-like enemies that appear in Donkey Kong Country Returns. They first appear in the second level of the Jungle world, King of Cling, and later in the Forest world. They jump up and try to bite Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong. They only take away one heart if the Chomp reaches Donkey and Diddy.

There are many different types of Chomps seen through out the game. The regular and most common Chomp is red which tries to bite the Kongs, and can only be killed with a barrel. A giant Chomp, which is a red, giant Chomp that attacks quicker, and is not possible to kill, making it the strongest Chomp. The yellow Chomp, which is like a regular Chomp, except yellow, delays the attack. This type of Chomp can also only be killed with a barrel. The green Chomp is green, contains four human-like teeth, and has a mushroom for a tongue, which the Kongs can bounce off. If Donkey and Diddy Kong jump on the mushroom, the green Chomp will bite, and if the Chomp succeeds, the player must shake the Nunchuk and/or the Wii Remote, depending on how the player plays the game, to get the Kongs out. The gold-brown Chomp has several holes on its body, and instead of biting Donkey and Diddy Kong, it will shoot acid balls in 5 different directions out of its holes. These types of chomps are the weakest, since they can be killed with either jumping on it, rolling into it, or throwing a barrel at it. The last type of Chomp, the blue Chomp, is a medium-sized blue Chomp that hangs on the top of the screen, and has a vine for a tongue. If the Kongs grab on the vine, the blue Chomp will slowly try to put the tongue in his mouth to swallow Donkey and Diddy Kong.
