Locked Doors[1] are obstacles that block the player's progress through worlds in Super Mario Bros. 3. Locked Doors are found in every world in the game, and they are unlocked after the player collects their respective magic ball from Boom Boom (usually in a fortress, though in Dark Land, magic balls are also found in vehicle stages), though some magic balls instead spawn bridges. Most locked doors simply block shortcuts, though some block progress further on, thus meaning Lakitu's Cloud cannot be used to skip those fortresses effectively. Like fortresses, Locked Doors remain unlocked if the player gets a Game Over, allowing the player to progress through the world faster.
