Special 1 is the first special world in Super Mario 3D Land, and the ninth world overall. It is unlocked after defeating Bowser in World 8-Bowser's Castle: Part 2. The world takes place in a sea green field with flowers and very tall hills in the background. It contains five levels, a Toad House and a Mystery Box. Its theme is an arrangement of the game's World 1 map music. Small Cosmic Clones are the only enemies introduced in Special 1. After Mario defeats Dry Bowser in the last stage of this world, Luigi is saved and becomes a playable character.
