Overview
Wrinkly's Save Cave is the successor to the Kong Kollege from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Candy's Save Point from Donkey Kong Country. After the events of Donkey Kong Country 2, Wrinkly retired from being a teacher and moved to the Northern Kremisphere, where she resided in several caves. Unlike Kong Kollege, Wrinkly does not provide any level hints to the Kongs.

A Wrinkly's Save Cave appears in every world of Northern Kremisphere, including the main overworld itself, where it appears between Bazaar's General Store and Funky's Rentals. Wrinkly's Save Cave can be identified on the world map from a flashing white light.

Each time Dixie and Kiddy enter Wrinkly's Save Cave, she is doing a specific activity, which is either exercising, playing a Nintendo 64, sitting on her couch, or sleeping. Even if Wrinkly is asleep, the Kongs still opt to save their game themselves. Wrinkly also looks after the Banana Birds rescued by the Kongs; after rescuing every Banana Bird, they return to the Banana Queen.

Wrinkly Refuge retains a similar layout in Donkey Kong Land III and the localized Donkey Kong GB: Dinky Kong & Dixie Kong. Wrinkly no longer does a random activity, nor do any Banana Birds appear.
In the Game Boy Advance version, Wrinkly's Save Cave is reduced to a single Wrinkly's Retreat on the main Northern Kremisphere map, as saving can be done from the overworld GBA menu. The other Save Cave locations were replaced with Cranky's Dojo. At Wrinkly's Retreat, Wrinkly simply waits for the Kongs to rescue the missing Banana Birds.

Wrinkly Refuge
In Donkey Kong Land III, Wrinkly's Save Cave is changed to Wrinkly Refuge, although it is still where the Kongs must go in order to save their game. The interior layout is similar to the one in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! Wrinkly no longer performs various activities, as she is always sitting on her couch.

Trivia
*An arrangement of the "Inside the Castle Walls" theme from Super Mario 64 can be heard if Wrinkly is playing her Nintendo 64.
*While playing Super Mario 64, Wrinkly sometimes asks "Why don't they make games about knitting?". There are two Super Mario-themed knitting games, both of which were only released in Japan, I am a teacher: Super Mario Sweater and Mario Family.

Wrinkly's Save Caves, later retitled Wrinkly Refuge, are a series of supporting locations run by Wrinkly Kong in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III. It is where the player saves their game progress. A single Wrinkly's Retreat appears on the main map in the remake of the former game because saving is now done from the main menu.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble![edit]

Some time before the game's events, Wrinkly retired from Kong Kollege, her supporting location from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2.[1] A Wrinkly's Save Cave is stationed in the Northern Kremisphere map, between Bazaar's General Store and Funky's Rentals, and in every world. Wrinkly does a variety of activities, such as exercising, sitting on her couch, sleeping, or playing a Nintendo 64; in the case of playing the Nintendo 64, the music is similar to the Peach's Castle theme from Super Mario 64. Other than saving the game for free (unlike at Kong Kollege), Wrinkly looks after every Banana Bird,[2] until they return to the Banana Queen.

Donkey Kong Land III / Donkey Kong GB: Dinky Kong & Dixie Kong[edit]

Wrinkly Refuge retains a similar layout in Donkey Kong Land III and the localized Donkey Kong GB: Dinky Kong & Dixie Kong. Wrinkly no longer does a random activity, nor do any Banana Birds appear.
