Lava Lobbers is a Duel minigame that is found in Mario Party 8.

Introduction[edit]

The first player rides inside a small minecart as it travels along a track and crashes through two wooden doors into a large lava-filled room, which appears to be inside a volcano. A stopblock prevents the minecart from falling into the lava, and a rotating platform then spins the minecart 90° to face the second player in their own minecart on the other side of the room, as the stopblock and the section of track that the first player rode in on both fall downward. The screen splits in half to show both players, and the minigame begins.

Gameplay[edit]

The players attempt to shoot cannonballs at each other, so the players must move their minecarts to avoid getting hit. There are two types of cannonball shots. A player can shoot a cannonball directly at the other player, who can easily dodge it. A player can also lob a cannonball high into the air so that it comes down onto the other player. This attack requires the other player to memorize where the shooter shot the cannonball. Both players have health bars, each with three pieces. The player who successfully knocks the other player into the lava by hitting them with cannonballs three times wins. If both players are eliminated from the minigame at the same time or the timer reaches zero, the minigame will end in a tie.

Ending[edit]

Wario doesn't win in Lava Lobbers from Mario Party 8
Toadette wins the minigame while Wario gets burned from the lava.

The winner does their winning animation in their minecart, while the loser gets burned from the lava. If the timer runs out, both players will do their losing animations in their minecarts. If both players are eliminated from the minigame, both players will get burned from the lava.
