The players in the teams attempt to work together in the mini-game. One player in the team gets the hammer while the other player doesn't. The player with the Hammer has to use the hammer to whack the Monty Moles that pop out. The other player without the Hammer uses the character's hand to pull out the crop to the farm trucker's container box. The Monty Moles occasionally pop out from the burrow and then get in it as the player with the Hammer has to defeat all of them in the play-field. Additionally, the player who pulls the crops out will have to take some time pulling out. An obstacle in the play-field includes some rocks that are stuck on the dirt that acts like a wall. The teams who defeated the Monty Moles and pulled all the crops out and throw it to their farm trucker's container box wins.

Crops 'n' Robbers is a 2-vs.-2 minigame that is found in Mario Party 8. It is the only 2-vs.-2 minigame in Mario Party 8 where the players have different controls. Its name is a pun on the name of the children's game cops and robbers.

Introduction[edit]

Two Shy Guys are driving their farm trucks as both of them have teams in the container boxes. They stop at the middle of some type of farm as the teams get out from the container boxes, one player carrying the hammer on each team. A Monty Mole sees the other team and goes back into the burrow. The camera then moves back from the area, letting the players see the area of the playfield the teams are in. The minigame then starts.

The goal of the minigame is to pick all the carrots and hit all the Monty Moles in the player's field before the opposing players can do the same to theirs. The players with hammers must hit all the Monty Moles in their fields by swinging Wii Remote like a hammer, and the players without hammers have to pick all the carrots by holding either A Button or B Button while thrusting Wii Remote upwards. Teamwork is important in this minigame, since some carrots and Monty Moles must be cleared to get to other parts of the field. Whichever team clears its field first wins. If five minutes pass, the minigame ends in a tie.

Ending[edit]

After the teams do their respective winning and losing animations, the winners run to their farm truck and get in the container box (with their carrots), and then the Shy Guy drives away with the team in the container box. The other Shy Guy waits but then drives away (with any carrots in the back), leaving the losing team behind (seen only in Party Mode). If a tie occurs, all players do their losing animations, and the Shy Guys immediately drive away.
