First appearance | Super Mario 3D Land (2011) |
A view plate[1] is an object in Super Mario 3D Land. They only appear in bonus rooms accessed via Warp Pipes. These bonus rooms all have a fixed camera and they contain a configuration of Empty Blocks and a Star Medal. The Empty Blocks are laid out in a way that resembles an optical illusion; if the player tries to jump to where it looks like the Star Medal is, they won't collect it. If the player steps on a view plate, it changes the camera's position in these rooms, which breaks the illusion. The direction the camera moves in is different for each level. Only three view plates are used in the game; they are located in 1-1, 2-1, and 4-4.
