Super Mario Bros. (スーパーマリオブラザーズ) is a one-shot Super Mario manga written by Yukio Sawada and is based on the eponymous game. It is his first Super Mario-related publication. It appeared in the February 1986 issue of Shōgaku san-nensei (小学三年生), a Shogakukan publication aimed at third-grade elementary students. It caught the attention of publisher Tokuma Shoten, which invited him to work at Wanpaku Comic. Months later, Sawada would start Super Mario Bros. 2 there. The one-shot was republished in the 40th volume of Super Mario-kun.[1]
