It was published monthly by Wanpaku Comic from 1986 to 1988, back when the company had the rights to create a Super Mario manga from Nintendo. It contained stories based on Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. After finishing its run, Sawada started a new series, Super Mario Bros. 3, but it ceased after two issues as the company shut down the magazine. Sawada has been making Super Mario manga with CoroCoro Comics since 1990, under the title Super Mario-kun.
