The manga is not included in any volume of the Super Mario-kun issues.
Summary[edit]
It is the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, and Mario is getting ready to compete against Sonic. He greets Peach at the Olympic Stadium, complimenting her on her sports uniform. He sees Luigi, Yoshi, and Bowser wearing outfits better suited for Karate, Sumo, and Swimming respectively. Mario asks why they are wearing all that, while Bowser points out how weird his CoroCoro themed caveman outfit is. Peach instructs everyone to put on their athletic gear. Just then, Sonic comes rushing in the same cavemen outfit. After shedding it, he teases Mario that he won't lose to a fool like him. Mario rebuts that he is the foolish hedgehog. Mario tells Sonic that if he loses to the hedgehog, he will rename the manga to Super Soni-kun. This worries Luigi, Yoshi, and Bowser, knowing that Sonic has friends like Tails, Knuckles and Shadow that could easily replace them. Mario adds on that everyone will dress up in Sonic mascot outfits. Bowser tells Mario to stop letting his pride overcome him.
The first event is the Discus Throw. After a setback where Mario thought it was billboard tossing (a pun in Japanese), Sonic throws his discus far. Mario spins around several times to get a good throw, but spins so fast, he misses and gets launched instead.
Afterward is the 110m Hurdles. Luigi is already worried because of Sonic's famous speed. Bowser tells Luigi he has a trick to keep the manga named Super Bowser-Kun (which Luigi points out is wrong). Right when the starting pistol sounds off, Bowser breathes fire at Mario, hoping to make him go faster. Instead, it costs him the race, which Mario berates him on.
The next event is the 4x100m Relay. Sonic, the last member of his team, already gets past Mario. Mario tells Yoshi to hurry, who uses his tongue to pass the baton over the longer distance. Instead, the tongue knocks him out.
During the Long Jump, Sonic gets himself a nice distance. Mario appears wearing giant shoes. Having enough of all this, Sonic yells at Mario that the whole reason he made a guest appearance in the manga was because he wanted to become friends with Mario. Mario is surprised by this. Mario gives Sonic a nose and mustache like his and accepts his friendship.
The two rivals agree to go at the final event, the 100m Dash, but with no tricks. Of course, Sonic takes the lead at first. Unfortunately, Yoshi tempts Mario with a Golden Dash Mushroom. Unable to fight the temptation, Mario takes it and blasts by Sonic. Infuriated, Sonic and Mario get into a fist fight. Luigi and Bowser get a chuckle on how the event suddenly changed to Boxing.
