They are walking enemies wearing hockey masks with daggers stuck in them, a reference to Jason Voorhees, the main antagonist of the Friday the 13th film series. This enemy's attack manner is similar to a Goomba's, although unlike Goombas, stomping a J-son propels Mario upward.
