Their shields do not completely block attacks, but they do cause them to avoid most of the damage. Shield Guys attack Mario by hitting him with their shield, causing him to take 10 HP of damage. Shield Guys can appear in red, yellow, or blue. They latter reappear outside of the Paper Mario world in Mario Tennis Aces's Shy Guy Train Tussle co-op challenge, where hold barrel lids for defending and can be hit for Coins, although it takes two shots to do so. In addition to their usual colors, a green variant appears as well.
